Claremont McKenna College replaces a Greek system with an active and effective student government. When you put lots of smart econ and government majors together, you get a student government that is an independent corporation with a $250,000 annual budget whose only goal is to make life on campus fun. ASCMC supports every type of student activity, for example: paying for buses for a Vegas trip, subsidizing tickets for an LA Kings game, or reimbursing party hosts for kegs, cups and other expenses. ASCMC has the money and energy to make almost anything possible, but they don’t hand it to students on a silver platter. On-campus and off-campus entertainment is student-motivated, meaning that while ASCMC will fund and help plan, the ideas come for the students.
Students can get involved with ASCMC in high level positions like president of the student body, or in less demanding roles as dorm presidents or senators. Every level of student government has an ample budget and plays a different role in student life. Senate, for example, has about 40 members and their budget includes the band fund, which gives them a say over who comes to perform at CMC. ASCMC is also responsible for the quality of student life beyond the borders of the College, since organizations and party planners from all over the Five Colleges come to ASCMC to get funding for 5C events on other campuses. CMC students don’t miss the Greek system; ASCMC fully compensates for the parties and creates a more inclusive, all-around social life.

No Greek life. CMC is small enough that it wouldn't really work here. You don't need frats or sororities to meet people, and the school throws parties, so you don't need frats for that either.

The purpose of a small, residential liberal arts college is to promote community and cohesiveness—something that CMC does extremely well. It is for this reason that there is no Greek life on campus, nor is it very missed. While there are other kinds of service organizations, the school is very good at taking care of the students' social needs. Parties are all inclusive on weekends and sponsored by the school. It cultivates a sense of camaraderie not found at state schools or even some of the larger private colleges.

We don't have Greek life, and it is completely unnecessary since North Quad is basically one giant frat. It's where all the parties take place, and the nicest place to live.

There is no Greek life at any of the Claremont Colleges. Instead, the North Quad area is like a big frat and forms the center of the party scene.
