Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Claremont College students don’t think about safety on a daily basis for one reason: they don’t have to. From walking alone at night to leaving laptops out in the library, Claremont students forget that safety can be a concern.

All Claremont campuses are equipped with college safety standards such as the blue-light call-boxes, rape whistles, student escorts, campus security, and cooperation with local police. Dorms require an ID card to swipe in, and all doors have either lock and key or a punch code. The only safety complaints are the occasional townie that tries to crash parties. But thanks to security outside almost every party, incidents are rare. Parties are safe because they are almost always on campus, which means safety precautions are always taken.

The town of Claremont/Village is so safe that students feel comfortable walking by themselves at any hour of night. If there was any safety problem, it would be petty theft. Most CMC students are comfortable with leaving laptops out and bikes unlocked, which has ended poorly for some. Even so, Claremont is small enough that computers and bicycles are usually recovered.

Completely Safe

I leave my door open all the time, and have never felt in danger walking around at night. Such a safe place!

They Don't Call It the "Claremont Bubble" for Nothing

Claremont is absurdly safe, to the point where students develop careless habits like leaving their doors unlocked and walking around alone at night. Cops don't even bother coming on campus because there's basically no crime and Campus Safety has it all covered. Sexual assaults are never reported, but I'm pretty sure they happen here just like at any college, so speak up if it happens to you!

Students get free appointments and cheap prescriptions for many basic meds at the very clean and professional student health center. It's an unbelievable resource. Lower marks for the mental health center, which has been cut back due to budget concerns; there you'll mostly just get referrals.

Dorms can schedule a lounge massage lesson for stress relief!

Generally, city police are not allowed on campus unless invited by Camp Sec, so get friendly with your local officers if you anticipate any "incidents."
