College Prowler Take

At first glance, the facilities at Clark Atlanta University may not appear to be the most outdated buildings in the South, but they could certainly stand some renovations. The gymnasium and some of the classroom buildings on campus could truly be considered state-of-the art structures—if this was the early 1920s. The VW Henderson Gymnasium Center seems to be the most outdated building on campus. With its dusty, ragged appearance, it’s no surprise that this building is conveniently left off the campus tour list. Many students often complain about classroom sizes being too small and that there are a few buildings that still need simple things like air conditioning and dry-erase boards. Many students feel that some of the freshman dorms should also be placed on the “tear-me-down and build-me-up” list because they are small and old-fashioned. There are a few other spots on campus that might need a few construction touch-ups here and there, but none are in horrid condition.

The most popular spots on campus are very attractive both inside and out. The Carl and Mary Ware Academic Center is one of the newest and most attractive buildings on Clark Atlanta University’s campus. The mass media arts department has a building that has been newly renovated and equipped with a fully-functional filming set. Other great buildings on campus are the Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson Student Center, and the Robert W. Woodruff Library.

The library is small compared to...

The library is small compared to other colleges I have visited. Even though I’ve always found all the research and books I’ve ever needed, it still would be nice to know that we have a library that could compete with other college libraries around the country. Considering Clark, Morehouse, and Spelman all share the same library, I definitely think that our library should be upgraded, but right now it’s still useful and resourceful.

The Carl and Mary Ware Academic...

The Carl and Mary Ware Academic Center is the newest, and by far the best, building for classes on campus. Most of the others need to work on increasing classroom technology and getting working air in the summer and turn down the heat in the winter. The Student Center is nice, but the gymnasium is a completely different story. I don’t think that they will be televising any live games there any time soon.

I wouldn’t say that Clark’s campus...

I wouldn’t say that Clark’s campus or facilities would be considered beautiful or spectacular, but I think we hold our own, especially considering that we are a private institution. (We don’t receive the government aide that public universities receive.) Also, we are an HBCU surrounded by the ghetto.

Some of Clark Atlanta...

Some of Clark Atlanta Universitiy’s facilities need to be rebuilt, such as the business building, but it is supposed to be getting rebuilt in the near future. Other facilities just need to look better, because some look a hot mess.

The media center is probably...

The media center is probably considered one of the most impressive facilities on campus. The media center is not only equipped with everything mass media majors need to learn and practice their craft, but it also houses a small, but fully functional television studio. Clark also has a radio station on campus that plays jazz and covers a few of Clark Atlanta’s major events.

Favorite Things To Do

Between classes, you can exercise in the gym or the workout room, study in the library, browse the Internet in one of the computer labs, play pool or video games in the rec room, or chill with other AUC students on the Strip without ever leaving campus.

Most students usually chill on the Strip between classes or during their free time. Every Thursday, local venders come to the Strip and sell their products that may range from framed art to fashionable clothing. Jazzman’s has a wonderful selection of quick in-between-class meals that most students usually take advantage of several times a week.
