College Prowler Take

Although Atlanta is not a true college town, the nightlife more than makes up for the lack of traditional “college-style” parties. The party scene on Clark’s campus is almost completely nonexistent. The Beta Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity annually throws a Watermelon Bash After-Party that is normally held inside the student center. There are usually about two or three other parties that are thrown on campus, but by and large, students have to rely on the club scene that Atlanta has to offer. Most freshmen students choose to attend parties that provide shuttles buses from an area on campus to the actual club itself. The Atrium is one of the most popular freshmen clubs because of its large air-conditioned venue, themed parties, and convenient transportation.

Atlanta’s surrounding colleges often throw parties in their Greek houses or ballrooms. The most popular places to party among CAU students are located in the Midtown to Buckhead region of the city. Unfortunately for most freshmen, the majority of clubs in the Midtown to Buckhead region don’t accommodate students under the age of 21. Freshmen parties are very “crunk” and can become a little rowdy due to the tremendous amount of testosterone. For the most part, everyone usually gets along well, and the girls and guys end up having a great time. Enjoying all aspects of Atlanta’s nightlife can not really happen until the age of 21. Before then, the crunk-style parties will have to suffice.

Morehouse and Spelman both have a few good parties throughout the year. The Homecoming Coronation is probably the best party during your freshman year because you get to dress up nice and go to a grand ballroom downtown. I usually enjoy a party that’s free of charge, but unfortunately for males, that doesn’t happen often.

Peachtree always has something popping. The best place to go if you are under 21 years old would probably be to a house party. To be brutally honest, unless you’re 21, you really don’t have many options.

Atlanta is a good place to come if you enjoy good parties and a great social scene. Buckhead is one of the most notable places to go out and party. The only thing about Buckhead is that you have to be 21 years old to get into most of the parties. Another bad thing about Buckhead is that everything closes at approximately 2 a.m. Aside from all the bad things, Buckhead is where you can get dressed up in your freshest clothes and see some good-looking people that you’ve probably not seen before and that you probably have a good chance to hook up with.

The nightlife is really not that great until you turn about 21 years old. The clubs that allow 18-year-olds are very ghetto. The whole night is full of crunk dancing, with people constantly stepping on your shoes. Never wear good shoes to the club. The Atrium is just about the only nice club for teenagers, but it’s so far out, so be prepared to be on the shuttle bus for a good minute.

Buckhead is one of the best places to be at night because even the restaurants are off the chain. Puff Daddy’s restaurant, Justin’s, always has two or three celebrities, and they usually play a lot of good music. Another good alternative to the club is Dave & Buster’s, because they have a restaurant, bar, and arcade all in one building.

Facts

Club Crawler

Atlanta has a number of clubs located in almost every part of the city. Shuttle buses are the main way freshman students get to and from the clubs. Most clubs that allow 18-year-olds have a more relaxed environment, so dressing up is rarely necessary. During the first few weeks of school the local clubs will throw parties nonstop, and there will always be plenty to do on the weekends.

Bar Prowler

There are some good bars in Atlanta that not only offer good drink specials but can also be a great club scene, too.

Organization Parties

There are not many organizational parties thrown on or off campus. The few parties that are thrown each semester are usually restricted to organization members and their immediate friends. Parties around the city are so abundant that campus organization parties are sometimes overlooked.

What to Do if You're Not 21

For students who are under the age of 21, there are always house parties and other clubs around the city that cater to youngsters. Most parties that allow underage students provide a free shuttle service to and from the party.
