College Prowler Take

Dining off campus in Atlanta can be a real treat when (and if) students are willing to take the time to locate good restaurants. The restaurants can be a bit pricey and a good distance from campus. Immediately surrounding Clark Atlanta University’s campus is an array of popular fast-food chains. Within the same distance, there are a couple of good home-style restaurants where students, residents, and visitors can feast on “soul food.” Two soul food restaurants that are within walking distance from Clark Atlanta are Paschal’s and Busy Bee. Although Paschal’s provides the upscale ambiance, and what seems to be a healthier version of soul food cooking, it irrefutably lags behind Busy Bee as the best soul food restaurant in Atlanta. When it comes to food options, Busy Bee offers everything from a “Knock’em out Joe Louis Ham Hock” to “Slap Your Mama in Her Left Eye and Spit on Her Good Church Shoe Pound Cake.”

Getting a great variety of meals means you must be willing to travel throughout the city of Atlanta and spend a little change. Recently, Jermaine Dupri added his name to the list of celebrities who own restaurants by opening Café Dupri, which promises to offer a high-quality menu that is nutritious as well as tasty. Buckhead Life owns 11 of Atlanta’s top-rated restaurants that have a selection of different cultural and regional tastes. Although Buckhead Life restaurants can be a bit expensive, the meals are definitely worth every penny. Overall, Atlanta has some of the best restaurants in the South, and the food is well worth your dollar.

Wing Zone is the late-night...

Wing Zone is the late-night delivery king, and they charge like they know it. There are a few places around campus to eat, but none of them are a must-have. There are also the usual fast food restaurants, but the McDonald’s located on the corner of MLK and Lowery has to be the worst on the entire planet.

The food off campus can be very tasty, but it all depends on how much you are willing and able to spend. Atlanta has some cheap restaurants and some very expensive restaurants. The good thing about the restaurants around Atlanta is that you can find places where you can get a good meal for cheap. One of the places that serves inexpensive food that is actually good is Busy Bee.

I would say that Mr. Everythings is a good place to go if you want some takeout food. There's not much around the school, however, you still have your basic fast food eateries if you are the type of person who likes fast food a lot.

The closest fast food places that are located off campus are McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Popeye’s, and Krispy Kreme. The best way to get to these fast food spots is to walk or take the AUC shuttle. The Krispy Kreme and Taco Bell restaurants are open until late-night hours, but I personally wouldn’t go there after 10 p.m. because the food probably is not fresh after that.

My favorite restaurants are JJ’s Rib Shack and Busy Bee. Paschal’s is an okay restaurant, but it just doesn’t compare to true soul food places like Busy Bee and JJ’s. Justin’s is not as good as people make it out to be, but they do have some bomb cornbread. Another good thing about Justin’s is that you have a high chance of seeing celebrities because P. Diddy owns the restaurant.
