Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dining off campus in Atlanta can be a real treat when (and if) students are willing to take the time to locate good restaurants. The restaurants can be a bit pricey and a good distance from campus. Immediately surrounding Clark Atlanta University’s campus is an array of popular fast-food chains. Within the same distance, there are a couple of good home-style restaurants where students, residents, and visitors can feast on “soul food.” Two soul food restaurants that are within walking distance from Clark Atlanta are Paschal’s and Busy Bee. Although Paschal’s provides the upscale ambiance, and what seems to be a healthier version of soul food cooking, it irrefutably lags behind Busy Bee as the best soul food restaurant in Atlanta. When it comes to food options, Busy Bee offers everything from a “Knock’em out Joe Louis Ham Hock” to “Slap Your Mama in Her Left Eye and Spit on Her Good Church Shoe Pound Cake.”

Getting a great variety of meals means you must be willing to travel throughout the city of Atlanta and spend a little change. Recently, Jermaine Dupri added his name to the list of celebrities who own restaurants by opening Café Dupri, which promises to offer a high-quality menu that is nutritious as well as tasty. Buckhead Life owns 11 of Atlanta’s top-rated restaurants that have a selection of different cultural and regional tastes. Although Buckhead Life restaurants can be a bit expensive, the meals are definitely worth every penny. Overall, Atlanta has some of the best restaurants in the South, and the food is well worth your dollar.

On-Campus and Off-Campus Dining

On campus we have a Jazzman's Cafe and that is only open on the weekdays but closes at 6pm. We also have our student cafe which serves dinner from 4pm-6:30pm. It is really inconvenient if you are a busy student like I am. We have a place called WOW and on the weekdays they have late nights where if you have a meal plan you can use your paw card to get food from 8pm-11pm. It is good but sometimes I get tired of eating there plus the line be out of the door since everyone goes there at night. So basically on the weekends the ONLY thing to eat on campus is the cafe which closes really early. Off-campus dining includes McDonald's, Papa Johns, Popeyes, Taco Bell, Jack-in-the-Box, Churches Chicken, etc. WIngs and things gives college students a 10% discount and their food is already cheap so I go there a lot. Most of the time I order out from places like Phat Philly's or Papa Johns. The food selection around that delivers are not that great. I wish we had some type of 24/7 food service on campus.
