Parking Permits
Parking is supposed to be limited to upperclassmen, but freshman students can easily buy a parking permit if they buy before the passes are all sold out. Applying for a parking permit is as simple as walking to the parking services office located in the deck of the main parking deck. The distance for your dormitory and the parking lot depends heavily on which dorm you stay.
College Prowler Take
Obtaining parking permits on Clark’s campus can be an expensive expenditure that most students are usually not too happy about paying. The prices of the parking decks are expensive considering that there are no major security measures taken to protect students’ automobiles from vandalism or theft. The CAU parking services department also reassures its customers that they are in no way responsible for vandalism or theft by displaying several signs that state this information. Students that live off campus generally prefer to park in the main parking deck, which is located near the front entrance of the campus. There are several parking decks that are located closer to the campus housing for students who reside in the dorms that are not close to the main parking deck.
Parking on campus can be a real headache, and some students
try to relieve their anxieties by illegally parking on side streets
and roadways. There are many side streets located on and around campus for students who would rather take the chance of getting a ticket or booted than to pay the permit fee. Unfortunately, students that take this chance have a high risk of getting ticketed and fined for even the slightest illegal parking. One of the most important things for new students with cars to know is that there is a bootman on campus that seems to take pride in the amount of boots he can issue out in a single day. The “bootman” is a parking deck employee that routinely checks to make sure that each car on and around campus is not illegally parked.

I have a parking pass, so parking for me is fine. Usually, there is plenty of space to park if you go to one of the higher or lower levels of the parking deck. The parking deck is safe, and there is less chance that your car will be broken into or vandalized. The only problem is that it is expensive, but it’s worth it not to have to search for a spot when arriving at school. |

Parking is inadequate, but if you get to school by 8:30 a.m., you can usually find somewhere free to park with no hassle. The problem comes in when there are people following you to your parking space when you leave and students fighting over your spot when all you are going to do is switch books. The downside to free parking is that once you leave, it’s a guarantee that your spot will be gone if you try and come back later. |

CAU police are notorious for giving out tickets for illegal parking around campus. However, there is not enough legal parking for students. Even the $100 per semester parking deck runs out of space by mid September. Sometimes I park at Publix and walk to campus because it’s really close, and it ensures that your car will not be towed or ticketed. |

Spelman and Morehouse have it worse because their parking permits are much more expensive. Whenever I think about complaining, I just remember that I could be over at Spelman or Morehouse paying almost twice as much. |

Parking spots are available if people would just be patient and look. I never pay for parking because we are located in the hood, so it’s not like you have a lot of city police ticketing your car. The only thing you have to remember to do is to take the face off your radio so that no one will attempt to steal your system. |
