Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The best things about Clark housing are that it is spacious and it is guaranteed all four years. Clark may not have the newest buildings, but they are all well-maintained, and the size of the rooms more than makes up for the age of the buildings. On top of that, all the housing options are within two minutes walking distance from any classroom that you might need to get to. The on-campus housing is furnished, provided with telephone, Internet, and cable TV, and they all have a cleaning service that takes care of the common rooms and bathrooms. Many students enjoy living on campus so much that they remain there all four years, and since seniors get the best numbers in the housing lottery, that isn’t a hard feat to accomplish.

When it comes to choosing a dorm to live in, the best advice for an incoming freshman would be to live in one of the freshman dorms. Either dorm will be a great time, and the social network that you create will follow you through all your years at Clark. There is definitely a perceivable difference between students who were able to live in the freshman dorms and those that did not, and most of those that did not seem to regret it. The one drawback to the freshman dorms is that they can sometimes be a little stricter than other dorms. This is because they tend to get more rowdy in general, and so the RAs get to be more watchful. But other than that, many consider the dorms to be the preferred way to live at Clark.

Houses Were Better Than Dorms

Dorms were okay but I am just the type that preferred housing like the quiet house or housing available on main st.

Good Housing Overall, Some Outdated Buildings.

Overall the housing is good. The rooms are all a decent size for a college dorm, have wireless and cable, and since it's such a small campus nowhere is necessarily inconvenient to live. The dorms by the street like Wright can get noisy and only Blackstone has elevators, which is really annoying when moving. Laundry rooms are also inconveniently located.

Good for freshmen

Housing at Clark is pretty good for freshmen. Wright and Bullock were just remodeled, and have extremely nice common rooms which students really do use. Bathrooms were just remodeled, and are very nice which makes a huge difference - big sinks, good water temperature and pressure. Each floor has a nice 60" TV with which you can connect your laptop to watch movies and just hang out. There are quiet study rooms on each floor, and some multimedia rooms with presentation systems. Sanford has much more visually pleasing rooms, but tend to be a little warmer as you can't regulate your radiator like you can in Wright and Bullock. Wright and Bullock are like prison cells, with dorm after dorm after dorm next to each other in a straight hall so you always know who's home and who is doing what. Sanford rooms are a little more set back so you aren't all crammed together, and the different shaped rooms really do make them more pleasant. Facilities in Sanford aren't as nice, though - they are simply older.

Did You Know?
  • All students are required to live on campus until they reach junior status. That usually takes four semesters. This is meant to help foster a sense of community among Clarkies, which works, for the most part. Exceptions to this rule are made only for those living with a parent or legal guardian within 25 miles of the campus.
  • Do you smoke? Then plan on spending many a winter night out in the cold since Clark is a non-smoking campus because of Massachusetts law. That means that no smoking is permitted in, or within 25 feet of, the buildings.
