Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Clemson draws a lot of students who actively participate in or love to watch sports. Those freshmen that arrive without an understanding of the Clemson athletic tradition find themselves in awe at the first home football game while 80,000 fans cheer on the Tigers as they rush down the Hill, a grassy area behind the home goalposts. Weekends at Clemson in the fall revolve around football, and students here wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sports are a way of life at Clemson. It is perhaps one of the best schools for you to watch or play any sport imaginable, from Division I to intramural. Club and intramural sports give you the opportunity to try something you wouldn’t believe a university would even sponsor—just don’t tell your parents you’re training with the Dixie Skydivers.

Amazing Atmosphere

The atheletics at Clemson are amazing. So maybe the football team didn't win the Orange Bowl this year. That doesn't stop the students from supporting the team. Fridays are Solid-Orange days - everyone wears an orange shirt. Game days almost feel electric with excitement. The first thing you see when you walk outside is tailgaters. Tons of them. So. Much. Orange. Everyone is so excited and happy. It feels like so much at Clemson is centered toward the sports teams. There are many exciting traditions for games, too. Although football is the biggest sport around here, people get excited for basketball and other sports as well. The school has many intramural and club sports that the students can participate in.

Show up

Some of the games are good, but if the team doesn't show up to play then there isn't a game. The fan environment is great through.

Most Popular Sports

Football, basketball, and baseball draw the largest crowds.

Most Overlooked Teams

Soccer attendance is low considering their outstanding accomplishments.

School Spirit

Clemson students’ blood runs orange, espcially for their football and basketball teams. Sweatshirts, T-shirts, and logo shorts bearing the Clemson Tiger are a required part of every students wardrobe.

Getting Tickets

All students receive free tickets to athletic events. However, for some big football and basketball games, you must stand in line a few weeks prior to the event to wait for your tickets.

Best Place to Take a Walk

Walk the perimeter of the campus—or jog, bike, or roller-blade as a lot of students like to do.
