College Prowler Take
Clemson draws a lot of students who actively participate in or love to watch sports. Those freshmen that arrive without an understanding of the Clemson athletic tradition find themselves in awe at the first home football game while 80,000 fans cheer on the Tigers as they rush down the Hill, a grassy area behind the home goalposts. Weekends at Clemson in the fall revolve around football, and students here wouldn’t have it any other way. Sports are a way of life at Clemson. It is perhaps one of the best schools for you to watch or play any sport imaginable, from Division I to intramural. Club and intramural sports give you the opportunity to try something you wouldn’t believe a university would even sponsor—just don’t tell your parents you’re training with the Dixie Skydivers.

Athletics Are Big
A+
Student Involvement: There is somebody at every athletic event. I attended over 35 athletic events this past semester (volleyball, soccer, football, basketball) and there is always someone there. Team Performance: Football team went to the ACC Championship game and basketball team is top 25. Fan Support: Excellent. On football saturdays, fans come in from all over South Carolina, making it the 3rd biggest city in South Carolina (and people start tailgating at 7 AM) School Spirit: Every Friday is Solid Orange Friday day (wear orange or else), school spirit is contagious, people love their teams and the school. Athletic Facilities: Memorial Stadium and Littlejohn Coliseum are great facilities. Fike Recreation Center is a great place for students to work out.

It depends on the sport. Football, of course, is awesome! Basketball is also a blast to watch—the fans are crazy at both events. I love to go to soccer games, too. Intramurals are pretty good, but I would recommend club sports. |

Football is huge. Partying the night before, tailgating the day of, and definitely wearing orange are all part of the deal. Aside from football, there are tons of other sports to be a part of or support, from club level ice-hockey and crew, to ultimate Frisbee, soccer, baseball, and golf. We’ve got it all. |

Varsity sports are huge here, which is one of the reasons I came to Clemson. I went to a small school in Indiana and wanted a big sports atmosphere. Football is amazing here; you’ve never lived ‘til you’ve experienced a game at Death Valley with 80,000 people all wearing orange with tiger paws painted on [their] faces. It’s amazing. |
