Students agree that common sense is the most important thing to have if you’re going to be drinking underage or attending parties where alcohol is present. They warn to be particularly careful in dorms or at bars when you know SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) agents are in the area. Most students feel that the police ensure safety on campus and do not treat the students unfairly.

Campus police are not overly strict at Clemson, nor are they pushovers. You need to be especially careful when on campus, particularly in the dorms. The University is responsible for the safety of all its students, and they go to great lengths to keep the living areas safe.

Depends on a Cop's Mood

The strictest thing at Clemson is parking. There are more important things to worry about but the campus police LIVE to hand out parking citations. I received a citation for parking in a spot 15 minutes before I was able to (students are allowed to park in employee parking spots after 4:30pm). The cops are pretty lenient when it comes to parties. Most of the time they'll show up and send everyone on there way and make sure no one drinks and drives but it can all really depend on their mood that night.

Punishments Are Severe

Clemson does not tolerate underage drinking...PERIOD. If you are "breathalyzed" on the street and have a BAC of ANYTHING (underage), you will get an MIP (Minor in Possession) because "your body is an open container." Ridiculous!
