College Prowler Take

With all the options off-campus, it’s a wonder that students eat in the dining halls at all. Students have a hard time naming a favorite restaurant because there are so many good choices—it may take year just to try each one once. Students say the locally-owned restaurants are their favorite, but there are also larger chain restaurants within close range.

It would be really hard to go hungry at Clemson with all the great off-campus choices. Even if you don’t have access to a car, there are a lot of good places within walking distance. The area offers something for every one of the 20,000 people at the University, just bring your appetite.

Close to campus there are a few good Chinese restaurants, a Papa John’s, and Tiger Town. Most places deliver, so if you don’t have a car, don’t worry.

It’s fun to go downtown (you can pretty much walk) and grab a bite at local restaurants like Ancheaux’s and TD’s. Or, if you like chains, within 20 minutes you can be in Anderson and be at Red Lobster, Chili’s, or O’Charley’s. All we’ve got at Clemson is Ruby Tuesday. But the local restaurants serve a good variety and it’s easy to be satisfied with them.

Off-campus dining is enjoyable. There aren’t a lot of ‘nice places,’ however. TD’s, Tiger Town Tavern, Explorer’s, Keith Street, and Mac’s Drive-in are some of the more recognized local spots. Expect good food with better Clemson atmosphere. Pay attention to the weekly specials and you can eat and drink cheaply every day of the week.

The restaurants off campus are great, every place in downtown is good, especially during warm weather, which is almost year round, because you can sit outside on patios and eat. There are too many to name.
