Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Many at Colby feel college is a place for students to grow intellectually and socially. Whether it’s in class, conversations around the dinner table, a club, or speaking with another student from a different upbringing, Colby students exemplify this maxim. The community here is one of its defining features, and Colby students (and professors and staff, for that matter) love the College. Most cite the friendly and intellectually engaging people and the pristine new facilities, and although academics can be strenuous, the classes and professors are undeniably wonderful. Students work very hard in and out of the classroom, and most are involved in multiple activities outside of classes.

Many students choose Colby because of the remarkable intimacy between the students, faculty, administrators, and alumni. The school is not for everyone, though. Many Colby students don't have much free time, and some find campus to be claustrophobic at times. Nonetheless, the campus is bolstered by the student body’s seemingly endless stores of energy, intellectual curiosity, and optimism. Despite the fact that the work can be overwhelming at times, most find refuge in their growth and confidence that develops over four years on Mayflower Hill.

Great Academics, Janplan, S****y Parties

Academics are great. Professors are very accessible and encourage you to come to office hours. Janplan (1 month term in january designed for internships and independent study) is Awesome! great opportunity for interships or just to chill on campus with an easy class. Lack on housing near by makes for s****y parties. Mostly happen in senior apartments, so if you're an underclassman not on a sports team and not a girl, tough luck.

Weekend Drinking

Theres plenty of alcohol. Most drinking and almost all parties are friday and saturday, especially saturday. Marijuana is present and many people are "have smoked" or "occasionally smoke." Not a lot of potheads, but there's plenty to befriend if that's you ;) hallucinogens are hard to come by, but findable. Coke is apparently around among athletes and upper classmen. Plenty of adderoll and the like around of course.

Not Much but Cheap, No Walking Distance

Very few people choose to live off campus, those that do generally find enough choice and cheap rents. But there is no housing in walking distance which is awful for parties.
