There are plenty of computers and computer labs sprinkled throughout campus for general use, and there is at least one computer lab and printer available in each academic building. Almost everyone brings computers, but it’s up to you to decide if you want a laptop or a desktop, a PC or a Mac. Colby also rents out (for free) Macbooks for short periods of time. Colby has wireless Internet in every academic building, dormitory, and public area, as well as Ethernet jacks in every dorm room. Though the network isn't perfect, it is very reliable and rarely doesn’t work. Printing is free campus-wide.
Campus Information Technology Services (ITS) is very helpful and alerts students of possible spam, viruses, and other problems that may arise. There is also a student-run help desk that is available every day until 10 p.m. Colby ITS also rents out media equipment for free, including projectors, digital cameras, video cameras, and other high-tech equipment. Overall, incoming students should be prepared to use computers a lot at Colby!
