Some students claim to have picked Colby, superficial as it may be, because of the beauty of the campus. The buildings and landscaping are definitely top-quality, and the view from the Miller Library steps is nothing short of breathtaking. Colby is in the midst of a vast new building campaign, with recent additions being the alumni center, Cotter Union, the Diamond Building, and the renovation of Roberts Row dorms—all of which were done within the past five years. Plans for a state-of-the-art science building and an addition to the Colby art museum are in place to be built within the next year. Colby spends top dollar to keep the campus well groomed throughout the year and makes it a priority to maintain all the buildings.
The athletic center is well liked and heavily used. Colby's three libraries are all great and very different. Many students choose to study in the main library, Miller, but others prefer the intimate settings of the Science or Art & Music libraries. Each offers ample study space and individual study "nooks." Cotter Union is a modern building and includes Page Commons (for dances, lectures, and other big events), the Pugh Center, the Spa, the Pub, the renovated bookstore, the on-campus post office, mailboxes, and an ATM. There are events in Cotter every night of the week, and it is the central hub of campus. Students are always walking through the building, and it is a great place to socialize and relax. Overall, the campus facilities are certainly a strong positive at Colby.
