| Advice on Finding a Job/Internship | |
Career Services can help with everything from finding a summer job to finding a career after college. Colby doesn’t have any pre-med, pre-law, or business majors, but if you’re looking into a future in those fields, Career Services tends to be very helpful. There’s an extensive career services library with lots of books about lots of subjects, and the counselors and faculty tend to be more than willing to talk to the students. While there are services for freshmen and sophomores, Career Services do tend to cater to the upperclassmen a bit more.
A great tool for finding a job or internship is eRecruiting, which is especially good for summer jobs. It’s a database with job and internship listings, and even if it can’t help you find the perfect employment, it can at least give you some fresh ideas. Start going to the Career Services office as a freshman; they’ll send you a few e-mails and things, but as a youngster, they won’t pursue you too actively. Go to résumé writing and interviewing workshops because they’re ridiculously helpful.
