Colby is beautiful year-round. The first month of school tends to be 70 and sunny, then fall comes and the leaves begin to fall and the temperature begins to drop slowly. Come November, though, the temperature can fall below freezing, and the snow usually begins to fall. After that, it's unusual to see the grass until March. But everyone at Colby will tell you that the winter is a lot worse in the telling. Though it does get cold here, the campus is small enough that you won't need to be outside for very long at any one time, and since it snows so often, the snow is always pristine.

Colby students are optimistic, if nothing else. They take advantage of Maine winters by skiing, ice skating on the pond, and sledding. As soon as temperatures rise above freezing, the winter coats disappear. A few degrees warmer and the ubiquitous flip-flops begin to emerge; shortly thereafter, skirts, shorts, halter tops, and Polos make an appearance. Sunny weekends are worshipped, and smaller classes will often be relocated outside on nice days. At Colby, students really get to experience each of the four seasons.
