Tips for Getting In
  • Emphasize and focus on your passions in your applications, and try to relate to how you think you can further them at Colgate.
  • One Dean of Admission recommends you write your essay and then have friends, teachers, and your parents read over it. If they couldn't hear your "voice," it still needs work.
  • Take on a rigorous course load during your high school years. The Office of Admission will never compare you with an applicant from another school, but they will evaluate your course selection and performance based on your school's course offerings.
  • While no one can say for certain what the deans of admission are looking for in a prospective class, Colgate students are generally very strong students who demonstrate dedication to their school, community, or family through service and extracurriculars.
