College Prowler Take
For first-year student, who all live in neighboring dorms on “the hill,” the popular spots are Andrews and Stillman, the two residential halls that offer suite-style living. Two double bedrooms share a common room, so the extra space is a key attraction. Sophomores with good lottery numbers end up with singles doubles or semi-large suites in Drake or Bryan, a dorm complex that offers perks like personal bathrooms, both on the top of the hill and close to the central part of campus. Some unlucky sophomores get stuck in Cutten, which boasts suite style rooms, yet most upperclassmen reminisce over the negative experience of being at the bottom of hill and not being close to classes. The University apartments for upperclassmen are large and community oriented. Many students also opt to live in Greek houses or special interest residences. These special interest houses have access to a large pool of funds that can be used to plan in-house social events for the larger campus. Students agree that freshmen should avoid Gate House, the butt of every campus housing joke. Although it’s difficult to measure whether the shoddy conditions and poor location of Gate House are really as bad as students say, one former resident offers this advice: “If they put you in Gate House, transfer.” The Townhouse Community is rather new, and hence the best housing available for upperclassmen and sophomores who want to participate in interest style housing with friends.

Although most colleges offer...
Although most colleges offer standard double rooms for incoming freshmen, Colgate truly has a living situation to suit everyone. For those who want the epitome of a college social experience, Andrews and Stillman offer suite-style living that is always lively. For those who fear guys horsing around in the hallways while they try to walk back from the bathroom in a towel, West Hall offers single sex floors. I lived in East Hall for my first year, which is the healthy living dorm on campus. I would highly recommend it to all incoming freshmen.

The dorms are all right, nothing...
The dorms are all right, nothing special but not dismal either. If you like it quiet, go for the substance-free dorm. Curtis and Stillman on the other hand are known as the loud party dorms. As far as non-freshman dorms, there are a lot more housing options.

If you like partying, go with...
If you like partying, go with Curtis, Andrews, or Stillman. Gate House also knows how to party, but they are very small, which is excellent if you like small, close-knit communities. East is substance-free and tends to attract truly genuine, friendly, and slightly nerdy people. East is the quietest dorm, which is a blessing on nights you have to sleep for a test the next morning or if you don't want to be woken up by rowdy neighbors at 3 a.m. on weekends. West is also quieter and has floors segregated by gender.

First-year dorms are awesome for...
First-year dorms are awesome for the most part, especially the older ones. The freshman dorms are right on top of the hill—right in the thick of the academic buildings and the dining hall. After that, you pretty much have to move down the hill, but it's not that big of a deal. Most of the housing is great, and upperclassmen have choices of townhouses, apartments, their frat or sorority house, and theme housing.

Dorms are a mixed bag. Freshman housing in East and West is pretty swank and clean. Sophomore housing on the whole is awful. Upperclassmen can enjoy townhouses and apartments, which vary in quality from complex to complex. I live in Parker and love it, though.
