Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While Colgate really is chock-full of computer labs in practically every academic building and most common buildings, a laptop is certainly a wise choice. The school is both Apple and PC friendly, and the wireless network recently underwent some major upgrades that left it speedy and reliable. Students are especially fond of the wireless Internet all across campus (including most green spaces) and the free printing in all labs. That being said, the University does require students to download the Bradford Persistent Agent to ensure students aren’t illegally downloading music or unwittingly bringing viruses into the system.

Some professors will request that students not bring computers to class, but for those that permit or encourage it, you are sure to find rows of students with laptops on Google Chat and Facebook—when they’re not taking notes, that is. Most professors have shifted their course readings onto Moodle (the online course management system), so assignments can easily be read on the computer or printed at one of the computer labs for the next class.

Accessible

In any building you can find either a computer lab or an available computer. The wireless is pretty expansive, but can be touchy at times.

Wonderfully Wasteful

I don't know one person who doesn't have a computer here, but there are hundreds of computers everywhere. There are Mac and PC options all over campus with free printing everywhere. Wireless can be spotty depending on where you are, but for the most part it's reliable and you can access it everywhere. All the dorm rooms have ethernet jacks in the event that you're really struggling.
