Like most other college campuses, drugs are part of the scene, but at Colgate, they are not a major problem. There are the regulars who smoke up weekly or more often, but the most common drug is alcohol, not narcotics. If people do smoke, they do it quietly, not blatantly; doors are closed, windows are opened, and fans are switched on.

Drug-related referrals and arrests have increased in the last four years, but seem to be balancing out now. People who choose to be foolish about their drug use are more likely to make this list, whereas those who are smart and discrete with their drug use will get away with it. Alcohol related arrests and referrals are much more popular. It is quite easy to find marijuana, but users are quite considerate for the most part. Harder drugs are nowhere near as visible and do not pose a threat to most students.
