College Prowler Take
Colgate recently remodeled the Coop, which serves as the student center. Since receiving new furniture, floor tiles, bathrooms—new everything—it is one of the most stylish and high-traffic places on campus. Colgate spared no expense in giving students a functional and attractive place to eat, socialize, and meet for group study dates—although, the mammoth fireplace, which reportedly cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, has been a controversial addition. There is only one public gym on campus (varsity athletes have their own), and it is slightly cramped for the heavy amount of traffic it receives at peak hours. Fortunately, the school regularly adds new equipment to handle the masses. In addition to modern and aesthetically-pleasing facilities, Colgate’s beautiful campus is one of its biggest selling points. The campus boasts attractive limestone buildings stretched across a hilly, tree-lined campus. Because it is a small school, all the facilities are within a ten-minute walk. On warm September days, when myriads of students throw Frisbees on the Quad, blast music from their dorm rooms, and study in the sun. Visitors will love Colgate just as much as the students lucky enough to live there.

All the facilities on campus are super nice and built relatively recently. The library, especially, is fantastic. It has tons of great nooks and crannies to study in!

Everything is amazing—the library, campus center, science center, other halls—except for the gym. The gym looks great from the outside but is in need of renovation. It is a small blip of insignificance on an otherwise overwhelmingly beautiful campus.

The gym is small but never gets too crowded, except during the week in the early afternoon. Mornings and weekends are the time to go. The libraries are great, and the Ho building has great study rooms, if you can find a free one.

Everything is very, very nice. However, the gym and athletic facilities are a little sub-par to the academic facilities, not by much but enough to be noticeable.

FactsWhat To Do on Campus
Many Colgate students are active overachievers, so they often spend free time between classes dashing off to meetings, or squeezing in a few hours at an on-campus job. In addition to normal college pursuits like eating, e-mail checking, and general socializing, the workout-crazed student body also flocks to the perpetually-packed gym. The Women’s Studies Center and Environmental Studies Department each offer weekly events that combine catered lunches with lectures.
Movie Theater on Campus
- Love Auditorium—a science lecture hall by day—doubles as a free movie theater every weekend
Bar on Campus
- Donovan’s Pub in the Student Union serves alcohol, Mexican food, and a variety of other fried food delicacies
Coffeehouse on Campus
- None, but there is a Café located on the 5th floor of Case Library, a quiet place to study that offers Starbucks coffee, sandwiches, and baked goods.
