College Prowler Take
The testimonies cannot be refuted. Colgate is a beautiful campus, regarding both the grounds and the students who attend it. Most everyone is wealthy, well-dressed, and fit. Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming, like flipping through a J.Crew catalog, with guys sporting pink shorts and girls wearing their characteristic pearls to class. We think Colgate may have invented the flipped collar (or at least it feels that way sometimes), so the controversy over collars-up or collars-down ensues. And, of course, we Colgaters are hot—do you even need to ask? In terms of dating, it happens, but one must remember that the students are 17–22-year-olds away from home with their own place to crash and booze at their disposal. The party scene complements the hookups that abound every weekend. Couples do date, but relationships for the most part are casual. More often than not, the case is either sexile your roommate, or be sexiled yourself. Students Speak Out

The guys are very nice and always play the ‘I can take you home to Mom role’ like champs—even if they aren’t really the best guys. When I was studying abroad last semester, I met a guy from George Washington, and when I told him I was from Colgate, he said, ‘Wow, you are the first girl I met from Colgate who doesn’t wear pearls.’ So, I guess we have a reputation, too! |

I am not sure whether there is something in the water, but Colgate, each of my four years there, was easily the best-looking community I have ever seen. Most of the people look as though they have just returned from a photo shoot for a J.Crew catalog. |

Social Scene
Students are very involved in the Colgate scene. Over 85 percent are involved in varsity, club, IM, or RecSports. Students believe in the traditional Colgate "hello," and smile to others as they walk past, but not everyone does so. Some greet only those they know or who are like them, others greet everyone. In addition to the many athletic teams, Colgate has a diverse range of student organizations, from publications to event planning to cultural groups, among others.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups. Colgate is a school of extremes in the dating department, with fewer cases of people straddling the line. You can occassionally find couples sitting together at lunch, but much more prevalent are the random hookups that occur every weekend. Students tend to go out every night of the week, except Sunday and Tuesday. It is highly likely that they will meet someone that is interested in hooking up with them, but this attraction often fizzles by morning. Couples do exist, and those that actually reach that stage last for years, but more often, "relationships" only last for a couple hours. The problem with a small school is that there's not a lot of room to keep skeletons in the closet; it's nearly impossible to avoid anyone on this campus, so choose your "friends" carefully!
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Fraternity parties and date parties between fraternities and sororities are great places to meet lots of different people. If you're not part of Greek life, people meet everywhere on campus; in dorm room parties, walking into town on their way to the bars, in class, and as members of student organizations and athletic teams.
Dress Code
Preppy. It ranges from American Eagle and Abercrombie & Fitch button-ups and khakis to J.Crew chinos, pink Polo shirts, and Vera Bradley accessories. Leggings and Uggs are very popular for women—despite the freezing weather. However, one is free to wear what they want, from sweats and sneakers to skirts and buttoned shirts.
