College Prowler Take
Parking is a pain your freshman year. It lets up considerably afterwards. Freshmen live up the hill, and the parking lot is at the very bottom, which leads to a very annoying, uphill hike, especially when it’s 20 degrees and icy. We advise befriending dormmates with cars to personally avoid this as much as possible. As a sophomore, the parking lot appears much closer, and that is when a vehicle of your own comes in handy. Many sophomores park overnight in the Cutten Lot on the weekends, although there seems to be no predictable pattern as to whether or not this will result in a ticket. As a junior and senior, a parking lot is just seconds outside of your house or apartment. Be careful of overnight parking on the side of the road (as opposed to within designated spaces) because Campus Safety will ticket you, and you would much rather spend that money on things other than parking fines. The freshman lot is really far away when you first get to school, but you get used to the hills, and nothing in Colgate is really more than a 15-minute walk. But you have to take all of these things into consideration and evaluate if it is even worth it to have a car on campus.

For freshmen and sophomores,...
For freshmen and sophomores, parking is a hassle. The parking lot is a 10-minute walk from the dorms. Otherwise, parking is fine, but you can't drive to class.

Parking is evil! Campus safety...
Parking is evil! Campus safety gives out tickets like candy. Freshmen can bring cars to campus, but don't ever park up the hill.

Most freshmen don't bring cars...
Most freshmen don't bring cars because they have to park it in the freshman lot down the hill, which is a major trek. Really, you can't park up the hill unless you like tickets. There's nowhere really to go, Colgate's in the middle of nowhere. So, why would you need one?

It is not too bad for freshmen,...
It is not too bad for freshmen, but it is far away, near the athletic center. It is generally easy to find a spot, and both freshmen and sophomores park in the same lot.

I have no clue because I don’t...
I have no clue because I don’t have a car. I am told it is a hike and a half to actually be able to get to the campus from your car. Parking sucks for the most part, especially during the winter, with all the ice and snow. |
Did You Know?Best Places to Find a Parking Spot The freshman parking lot early to late afternoon. Do not wait until right before you go to bed to get a parking spot; if you do, you will be parking in the back by Tyler’s field.
