  • Students often have a friend drive them to the airport.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Colgate is the true embodiment of a walking campus. Nothing is more than a 15-minute walk, and for those nights when it is too cold, the Colgate Cruiser runs late and traverses campus and the downtown area at relatively regular intervals. Cars are permitted on campus all four years, and parking is free, albeit limited during the regular school day. If you can avoid the parking tickets, cars make it quite easy to get around town (although walking is just as easy) to the local grocery store, to the airport in Syracuse, and to the train station in Utica—although chances are at least some of your friends will also have a car on campus.

The Colgate Student Travel Agency run by the Center for Leadership and Student Involvement (CLSI) offers a Coach USA bus that makes two daily stops by the HOP (Hall of Presidents), and during major break times, there are chartered buses to the major city center. It’s not too difficult to make your way out of the Chenango Valley and into the transportation centers; it just takes a bit of planning.

Cruiser!

The cruiser is great during the daytime rush to class during the week and at 3am when everyone's leaving the jug, but other than that I'm pretty sure it's completely lawlessness. The cruisers do not come on time or follow any schedule or route that makes any sense.

Cruiser

Cruiser is available to take you around campus and to town, but walking is a faster option most of the time. Cars are not necessary, the campus isn't that big. But getting to the grocery store is a trek, luckily you hardly ever need to get there.

Getting to anywhere outside of hamilton is difficult. Trains are in Utica or Syracuse. One bus line picks up on campus and goes to NYC (and a few places along the way). Basically cars are necessary to leave campus but not most of the year.

Everything Is Pretty Close by

I don't have a car and can survive here. Everything you need is within walking distance, and the Cruiser can be helpful if you need to go to the supermarket.
