College Prowler Take
A car is the best way to get to Colgate, either catching a ride with a friend or parents or driving one's own car. Taxis can be an expensive option. Some choose to take Amtrak from Utica or Syracuse, which are both about an hour away. Others can take an inexpensive ShortLine bus that stops at James C. Colgate Hall twice a day, but it is long and uncomfortable. A car is the most efficient and convenient form of transportation to and from our small-town campus.
On campus, students walk almost everywhere, so get used to the hills. Colgate allows first years to bring vehicles to campus, but the parking lot is relatively far. Many students wait at shuttle stops to take the Cruiser, but about the same number would rather walk than wait, because nothing on campus is more than a 15-minute walk. The Cruiser is relatively reliable—just make sure you know the schedule, in case it’s on its break between 12 and 1 p.m. It’s no fun waiting on the Cruiser, especially in the dead of winter when temperatures plummet below freezing. The Cruiser is somewhat reliable and perfect for students who are drunk, cold, or just plain lazy. In general, Colgate students are friendly, so it’s easy to catch a ride from time to time. If not, our campus is small, so no walk is too bad. The main steps are heated to stay ice-free.

Let's just say that one should never use the Colgate Cruiser for a reliable source of transportation. Although it does run, it is never on time! This is really terrible when fall and winter come, which is like most of the year at Colgate.

On-campus transportation is great,...
On-campus transportation is great, but as far as getting home for breaks, if you need to get to the airport definitely find friends with cars. Syracuse Airport is an hour away and taxis are very expensive, so try to share if you can. If you're lucky with your schedule, you can get on one of Colgate's shuttles around breaks, but getting to the airport is generally a hassle.
