Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It's Detroit, so you have to be smart about things. It's not like you'll get stabbed in the face the moment you step outside, but you need to be aware of your surroundings so you don't get mugged or taken advantage of. Things are pretty tight on campus. There are cameras and guards everywhere to ensure that everyone is safe and that nothing happens to them. You can walk around campus alone, and you'll be fine. But CCS isn't fenced in, so you should still have a buddy walk with you after dark. If you don't have someone to walk with you from the dorm to the 24-hour lab, or any other scenario like that, you can call security, and they will send someone out to escort you to wherever you need to go on campus. It's a pretty small campus, but it's good to know that option is out there. At the Taubman Campus specifically, you can't even step foot more than 10 feet inside the building without showing your  ID or having someone sign you in as a guest. The parking garages on each campus also require an ID to get in and out.

As far as health goes, CCS offers a health insurance plan to all students. Students are automatically covered by accident insurance in case they get hurt on campus. If you decide you want to purchase extra insurance in case of colds or flus that might come about, it's a very reasonable price. At orientation, they will normally hand out a packet that you can choose to fill out if you're interested. There is also a nurse on staff in the Student Life Office a couple days a week that can help treat you and officially excuse you from class if you are legitimately sick.

Maximum Security School

I feel VERY safe at CCS. The Taubman Center is right across the street from the main Detroit Police station. Getting into the building requires and access card and getting past guards and anywhere you go in the building requires you to use an access card too. Also, Wayne state is in the same area and they have their security as well that patrols our campus as well. I feel very safe walking around this neighborhood. CCS does an excellent job at making sure its students and staff stay safe.

Safety in Detroit?! Its Possiable !

When I first told peers and teachers that I was going to school in Detroit Michigan, there first response was ...OMG why?!!?. But To tell you the truth, the reputation of the City of Detroit had no effect on me because I knew College For Creative Studies(CCS) was the school that was going to be for me, besides it being in a not so safe environment. When coming to CCS however, security is pretty tight, you have to sign in all guest in dorms and also students have to show i.d upon entering the dorms; no matter what. At nights they have patrol vehicles and transportation vehicles that bring you back and forth between campuses as well. In the end, I feel safe in Detroit on the CCS campus, even though reported accidents of being mugged have been a constant issue, CCS is trying as hard as they can and I appreciate the effort.

School & Safety in Detroit

Well CCS is in Detroit, which is the highest rated city for crime it is hard for nothing to go wrong. I think the campus does try to do their best, I don't think the Detroit police officers care too much, not until recently when CCS pay them more money to patrol our area.
