While most of the teams on campus have their fair share of achievements, only with basketball do you get any real athletic excitement at the College of Charleston. Being very arts-driven, the overwhelming majority of the student population didn’t come here because of a certain team or because of the College’s athletic reputation. The same can be said about the student athletes; they are laid-back, just like “regular” Charleston students, and do not strut about campus boasting about their achievements and talents. Cougar fans love to support their teams here anyway. Many basketball games are televised and excited students crowd the Carolina First Arena to be a part of the action. Everyone else joins in by cheering from their couches at home, as if they were in the stadium bleachers.
Overall, College of Charleston may not be the place for a sports fanatic, unless he or she would be willing to watch the games on TV. Basketball games score fans, but the other sports are mostly neglected by the student body. It doesn't help that the track, soccer, and baseball fields are out of walking distance and only accessible by car.

So Many Options - Even a Surf Team!
Only miss the Fall Football, as there's no FB team, but I can attend FB games at the Citadel nearby.

Basketball and That's About It
Basketball is the only popular sport here at the college. We have no football team so when basketball season arrives, the campus is spirited.

Lack of School Spirit
Not a lot of school spirit. Athletes are really smart and are nice.

Baseball and basketball—these are pretty much the only two sports CofC students care to watch.
Equestrian, women's volleyball
With a basketball team of somewhat high reputation, students will rally behind CofC athletics, even if they’re not sports fans. Athletics at the College of Charleston are no more popular than theater, music, or any other area of interest, and school spirit seems to be expended on all of these things. Musicians gather in the outdoor areas of campus and perform drum circles, and students flock to see student-written plays. The pride that students have in each other and in the College reaches to all areas—beyond athletics.
Basketball games at the College of Charleston are a big deal, and certain games, like those against the Citadel or Davidson, are talked about a week before they happen. Without getting tickets ahead of time (like an hour before the game), you’ll be watching from your couch. Most other sporting events are not difficult to get tickets, and students and spectators can buy tickets at the door.
The Battery, Waterfront Park, James Island County Park, anywhere south of Broad Street. Charleston is a scenic and pedestrian-friendly city. Anyone who is interested in architecture, history, or anyone who simply wants some brisk exercise should take a stroll in this extremely flat and walkable city.
