College Prowler Take
There will always be mixed emotions when it comes to campus dining, but every student can pretty much agree that the dining hall leaves much to be desired. Though the food in Liberty Cafeteria is quite good, very good considering how much a meal plan costs. Once you’re inside Liberty and your student ID has been swiped, you can eat to your heart’s content. However, as cheap as an all-you-can-eat meal at Liberty is, it’s not the popular choice for upperclassmen. The Champ Card gives students access to a great variety of restaurants around Charleston, which are easy to get to regardless of where you are living, and it costs about the same as the College’s meal plan. Most students agree that a combination of Dining Dollars, meals, and the Champ Card is the way to go. The Champ Card is good for satisfying cravings for Bull Street Gourmet’s delicious sandwiches or Caviar and Bananas' build-your-own salads. Dining Dollars work best for those on the run who want to snack on sushi from Grab & Go or anything that is quick. When students do have the time for a sit-down breakfast, lunch, or dinner, their good old Liberty meals are there to feed them. Whatever your needs are for dining at the College of Charleston, something can be arranged with the limited but sufficient options provided by campus housing.

The Hungry Cougar has great salads and is really convenient, but it smells weird. Liberty's great as long as you're not by yourself. Einstein Bros sucks, and Stern isn't that great. The people who work at the dining halls are all really angry and seem to hate their jobs, too.

I hate the HomeZone in the Hungry Cougar. If there weren’t a dorm above it, I would want someone to burn it down. There is no excuse for our parents paying the money they pay for the crap they call food in the HomeZone. It makes me sick just looking at it sometimes. |

I’ve only been here for one year, and I have a meal plan. I will probably get one next year, too, just because it’s the easiest thing, and you get the most food for the least amount of money. |

Never get just a meal plan. You’re completely stuck when all your friends want to go to Joe Pasta or something and you have to go to the cafeteria. Part of being in Charleston is experiencing the food. Definitely get a Champ Card or Dining Dollars. |

I think the Champ Card is a rip-off. You’re not getting a deal, or getting free meals. You’re paying for every scrap of food you eat, just all at once instead of in increments. Don’t be fooled. It’s a good arrangement, but it’s not like the College is getting shafted. |

Did You Know?Meal plans at Charleston include Dining Dollars, money stored in a student’s account that can be used like a credit card at dining halls. The off-campus meal plan offers another option, called the Champ Card, which allows students to dine at various Charleston restaurants on a pre-paid meal plan.
