Students feel that, for the most part, the amount of facilities provided by the College of Charleston is suitable, and the school is making further attempts to accommodate its students. Newly-built residence halls will allow housing for the growing influx of students. The recently-built Liberty Residence Hall and George Street Apartments show that the College is making its presence further known within the city. Also recently built, the Carolina First Arena and the Patriot’s Point are testaments to the College’s transition into NCAA Division I and its further developing sports programs.
Sometimes it may seem that the College of Charleston has tried to cram too many things into a small amount of space. The Stern Center, with its many facilities, is an example of this; if there were only one building that could be considered the “central” building on campus, this would be it. The arts center is spacious and includes a courtyard that can be enjoyed by all students, not just artists. With the exception of relatively new buildings ("new" meaning built within the last 100 years), the facilities that have stood in Charleston for more than 200 years are the ones used by the College. Even on campus, where the city has seen the most architectural change, the sights are pleasing to the eye.

Facilities Are Good
Good facilities overall. The library is very nice with many computers and a nice grassy field in the back to study outside when it is nice.

CofC has many green projects and issues on the table. In terms of transportation, the College offers reduced parking rates for those who share rides together. The City bus system is free for the College community. Plus, all maintenance cars are electric, and light bulbs are compact fluorescent, which is better for the environment.
The center of campus known as the Cougar Mall (between Maybank Hall and the Robert Scott Small Building) is a popular place for students to hang out in between classes, and tables are usually set up by campus organizations such as Greek life, athletic teams, academic clubs, and volunteer organizations. Napping on the Cistern or the library courtyard is always a popular activity. The Stern Center plays host to live music functions and cultural events with free food! Several buildings on campus hold poetry readings, lectures, debates, and films.
When not in class, students can use the fitness center, grab a bite to eat at any of the dining halls, see a play in the Simons Center for the Arts, throw a Frisbee in the library courtyard, play a game of pool at the Stern Center, view an art exhibition at the Halsey Gallery, listen to a guest lecturer, or relax and listen to music on the Cistern in front of Randolph Hall—all without ever leaving campus.
In 2007 and 2008, nine new facilities were built and three more are currently under construction, including Dixie Plantation—862 pristine acres located 17 miles south of Charleston. At the site, the College plans to build an environmentally sustainable teaching, research, and recreational facility for the sciences and liberal arts.

College Prowler guides are in the hands of students throughout the entire process. Because you can't make student-written guides without the students, we have students at each campus who write, edit, and survey their peers for every guide that we publish.
