The slight rustling of leaves and suspicious shadows can send anyone running to their dorm rooms late at night. However, this quick rush of adrenaline is not triggered by the fear of crime. Instead, traditional ghost stories and tales of the Mount’s past have gradually consumed the minds of students, and it has become routine for most students to run away from the “spirits” that wander throughout the campus at night. Despite the scare, the CMSV campus is generally safe, especially because of its small size. Still afraid? Well, rest assured—you can frequently find Campus Safety roaming through the hills of the Mount on their golf carts with walkie-talkies in hand. However, they are often not needed, with the exception for those times when inebriated or lazy students need a ride to their dormitories. Even the neighborhood is generally secure, with the exception of Riverdale Avenue, about 15 minutes away. And even then, it is not that dangerous, it's just that lot of the people passing through there are bold and loud.
On the health side, a nurse is available to students in Spellman, but in times of sickness, she is probably not the best person to run to because she spends more time asking health and safety questions. A person is also on duty in the Sports Center, who is there to assist anyone with muscle and sports injuries throughout the day.
