Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The students almost unanimously praise their professors for their interest in the course material and their efforts to make potentially boring classes interesting. Professors at Holy Cross are true educators. They all want to see their students develop into not just informed individuals but critical-thinking men and women. Professors’ passion for their subject matter carries through into the classroom, where students are inspired by, and therefore enjoy, their classes.

As a small institution with a caring faculty, students are not just numbers. Many professors seek out personal relationships with their students that last beyond the end of the semester. Professors often go out of their way to ensure the success of their students, and it is this kind of personal, caring, and nurturing environment that is the hallmark of a Holy Cross education. The professors make themselves readily available to all of their students. There is no question that Holy Cross gives its students a truly first-rate, first-class education.

Professors

The professors are outstanding. My teachers all know me personally even though I do not frequent office hours. They are all passionate and very involved with the students. My teachers inspire me.

English Major

Each major is uniquely challenging and requires a lot of work. However, the best thing about Holy Vross is that each major is experienced by the students because of the Holy Cross liberal arts common requirements.

The English major is great and very challenging. The professors are hard graders. The curriculum expects you to learn different writings from various historical periods and styles.

One of the BEST!

Best curriculum you will ever find. The professors are very smart, but not all are good at teaching. Upper-classmen will be your friends in determining which were great teachers from their experiences. But the class size is so small that Professors get to know you pretty well especially if you go to their Office Hours frequently for help and also to just chat with them. Registration process is sorta unfair because everyone can register at the opening time, which usually jams the campus internet server, so depends if your lucky to get in the system first. HOWEVER, you can AVOID this by going off-campus because if you use an outside online connection the system usually lets you in first! Workload is CRAZY amounts of work, obviously depending the class and professor, but usually the Prof. gives you workload like you are taking their class only and nothing else for that whole semester. Most popular study areas is of course the sciences or PRE-MED, having the biggest Intro Courses (-30 students) and Pre-Med Courses are limited to Pre-Med Program admitted students. Also, if you plan on taking more courses in one subject, even if you might not exactly major in it later on, your best bet is to declare that as your Major because during Registration you will have preference over other non-Majors.

Did You Know?

Holy Cross is in the top 3 percent of four-year colleges for the number of students going on to earn doctorates.

The Montserrat program for first-year students is a unique blending of education and living. Each student is put in a small seminar for the full first year and lives in a dorm with students in similar classes. The program aims to create out-of-class discussions and help students transition to college academics.

Dinand has individual study carrels placed throughout the stacks, large group tables in the main reading room, and small tables in the blue room (where talking and noise are permitted).
