Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The lack of crime at Holy Cross is almost comical. An incident as small as the theft of a watch or wallet from an unlocked gym locker generates campus-wide safety alerts and a Herculean investigation from Public Safety. The lack of true crime leaves Public Safety of?cers free to spend time dealing with quality-of-life issues, such as alcohol and parking violations, which seem to be the main complaints about Public Safety. Woe is the underclassman who parks his unregistered car on campus—it will soon be ticketed. The student body is small enough—some might say homogeneous enough—that outsiders can easily be spotted. Dorms are protected by a card-swipe system where student ID cards must be swiped in order to unlock dorm doors. Each dorm has its own swipe system and each student’s ID card only opens his own dorm and floor.

Although there are clearly many complaints about the tactics employed by Public Safety, the clear consensus is that Holy Cross is an extremely safe campus. No respondents complained of feeling unsafe, and many commented on the omnipresence of Public Safety. The fact that Public Safety is able to focus so much energy on quality-of-life issues shows that Holy Cross is an extraordinarily safe school. Although Public Safety could do to ease up a little with its over-enforcement of certain campus policies, it has done a superb job in keeping the campus crime-free.

It's a Safe Campus

It's a pretty safe campus. The public safety people are always around and if you feel unsafe, you can always call them and they'll be there with you to.

Facts

Did You Know?

Holy Cross is a keyless campus. A student’s Holy Cross ID needs to be swiped before entering a dorm. Individual dorm rooms are protected by number-punch lock systems, eliminating the need for (and potential for losing) a key. The Holy Cross ID, issued by Public Safety, is a vital part of existence. In addition to giving access to the dorm, the card also must be swiped before meals, is used to punch in and out of work for on-campus jobs, works as a library card, and is a debit card that can be used around campus.
