A Vibrant Community

The smaller size of Holy Cross provides many benefits to students. One of the most distinct things about Holy Cross is how welcoming and supportive the campus community is. Holy Cross is only undergraduate so there are no TAs and all research opportunities are available to all students. Holy Cross alumni are really supportive of the school so there is a fantastic internship program.

When in Doubt, Explore Campus at 3Am

There are lots of cool little places on campus to hang out in and explore; some very accessible, some not so much. For example, breaking into the Fenwick towers at night is a fun time.

Off Campus Housing

underclassman are required to be on campus..trust me when your an upperclassman..off campus housing is the way to go.. I've moved off campus this year and its great..finally i can live like an adult an not like a child being under house watch 24/7.

to fully get the feel of being in college , i would definately reccomend living off campus..the social life is great..you are to party when you want andf with whom you want and you don't have the school and breathing down your back.

Facts

Traditions
  • : Holy Cross has a rich store of traditions, some practically as old as the school itself, some more recent. The traditional rivalry with Boston College is still strong, despite the fact that the two schools haven’t competed athletically since the 1980s. The Catholic Church provides many traditions, such as the Mass of the Holy Spirit welcoming freshmen to the College (and providing parents with a way to say good-bye to their children), and the Baccalaureate Mass said at graduation. The College also has a strong tradition of community service and volunteerism within the Worcester community.
  • : In terms of more tangible traditions, Spring Weekend (first weekend in May) is an excuse for the campus to celebrate spring. The school sponsors a carnival held on the Hart Lawn and most off-campus houses have huge parties. As an institution with a large population of Irish American students, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are also a long-standing tradition.
Urban Legends
  • Letters to Tomorrow - Since at least the 1960s, students have climbed to the upper floors of the western tower of Fenwick Hall to leave letters addressed to future visitors who stumble upon their words. The letters lay in a neat pile, slowly molding in the damp, dusty, unlit attics.
  • The Fenwick Exorcism - You’ll find the entrance to the “Holy Cross Exorcism Room” on the fourth floor of Fenwick, where that adamant edifice of brick and stone connects with O’Kane, forming a looming L shape on the northern slopes of Mount St. James. Twenty well-worn steps, generally known as the Stairway to Nowhere, lead up to a locked door. The stairway apparently jogs to the right and continues its ascension, but a wall has been erected to hide the staircase; one can see only the disembodied banisters and handrail disappearing into the ceiling above. Holes have been dug out of the plaster at the foot of this wall, giving the impression of someone or something trying to burrow in or out. Above the lock on the door someone has scribbled “666.” At the foot of the door is a tiny sticker that reads: To: Students Help me! From: Demon
  • The Jeane Dixon Axe Murder Rumor - In the late 1970s, a rumor spread around campus that nationally syndicated astrologer Jeane Dixon had predicted an axe murder in a college dormitory overlooking a Jesuit cemetery at a Catholic college. The murder was supposed to take place in 1978.
