Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town
  • Holy Cross provides free shuttle services to Boston, Providence, and Blackstone shops every weekend.
  • Nobody bikes; everybody walks.
  • Taxis are the easiest if you don't have access to a car. For runs to downtown during the day, the free consortium shuttle comes hourly.
Best Ways to Get to the Airport
  • A cab ride to the airport costs $40 for a shared van to Boston, $50 for a shared van to Providence, or $125 for a private car to either.
  • Driving or taking a cab is easiest, but you can also take the Commuter Rail to South Station, and then take the T (Blue Line) to the Airport. Knights Limousine and Airport Service is popular, too. Call (800) 822-5456 to arrange for a pickup. This service offers shared vans and private cars.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nobody really uses public transportation to get around at Holy Cross or in Worcester, and students agree that a car or a cab is the most convenient way to get from one place to another. The Consortium Shuttle connects Holy Cross with the other colleges in Worcester and with downtown, but it only runs hourly. There is a WRTA bus stop just outside the campus gates, but students rarely use it.

Cabs are the preferred mode of transportation. In terms of getting out of Worcester, it is the last stop on the Framingham/Worcester line on the Commuter Rail, and it takes an hour and a half to get into Boston (South Station). Amtrak also runs trains to Chicago and New Haven through Worcester. The Bus Depot provides connections to more places, including Providence. Worcester’s small airport closed in 2003 because it had few flights out, and it was never a popular departure point among students. The College runs shuttles at break times to both Logan and Providence airports.

Transportation Is Great

There are a lot of shuttles and buses that go to Boston, Providence, and local malls every weekend and less frequently during the week. Schedules are given every week. Union Station, the closest bus depot and train station, is a very short cab ride from campus.

Shuttles Are Nice

Free shuttles to local mall, Boston, and Providence on the weekends directly from Holy Cross. They also have a Woo bus, which i believe takes you around worcester during the day that you can use. I haven't used it yet. Taxis take most people to the clubs and bars. Usually a $12 fare, so bring 3 or 4 friends with you.
