College Prowler Take
Friday night football games are very popular events, especially for freshmen and seniors. While the team doesn’t typically win any major championships, students love cheering on the Tribe. Besides that, few students attend any other varsity sporting events. Instead, many participate in the numerous club and intramural sports. The athletic facilities, such as the Rec Center and various fields, provide great places to stay in shape or let off some steam. When push comes to shove, W&M is essentially a school full of nerds; some are athletic, but a lot aren’t. Regardless of athletic ability, however, anyone who wants to has the opportunity to get involved in a sport, and many students do just that.

Varsity sports are big enough, but they’re not a huge deal, and neither are IM sports. But most students do participate in some sort of sport. |

Varsity sports are really big in some cases—soccer, lacrosse, and track and field, for instance, but not so big for football or basketball. IM and club sports are really big, especially crew and hockey. I played softball for a while, and there is usually a full roster for that. |

Sports aren’t huge, though many people like to go to football games (though there are plenty that don’t, as well). There are a lot of IMs, as well as club sports which are great! |

It’s a small school, so you will be bound to know someone who does a varsity sport. But I wouldn’t say that it is a big spectator school. Lots and lots of people do IM sports. Lots of organizations have teams. |

All I was ever involved in was ultimate Frisbee, which is technically a club (which you should join by the way). It has the best atmosphere, people, and fun of all the sports groups. Varsity sports aren’t really big. We have a football team, but it’s not that great. |
