Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Depending on the facility and time of day, a student's campus dining experience can go from stellar to lackluster. While students relish the variety and health foods offered at the Marketplace, the dining halls closer to the freshman dorms (The Commons—aka "The Caf"—and the Sadler Center) usually lack any semblance of fine dining and tend to dwindle in food supply outside of the main dining hours. All places usually close down by 7:30 (with the exception of the Sadler Center, which leaves out bagels and low-maintenance food items until about 9 p.m. on weekdays). Along with these dining options are the restaurants on campus and off campus that accept "flex points" that come with specified meal plans. These flex points are essentially currency set aside for the on-campus Students' X-Change (which has some groceries and school supplies) as well as the nearby Domino's Pizza restaurant, Chick-fil-A, and the Einstein Bros. Bagels shop located inside the Sadler Center. They're great to utilize once the allure of the crowded dining halls wears out.

Unfortunately, a lot of students complain about the expense of the meal plan in comparison to the quality of the on-campus dining experience. While it's definitely a part of the freshman social experience to visit the Caf on a regular basis to meet up with friends, it's extremely common for them to abandon the buffet-style services for the more tasteful and comfortable atmosphere of the Marketplace and on-campus restaurants.

Some Pre-View About WM

Actually I haven't enrolled in WM yet. I heard from many upper-level students that WM's dining is not as perfect as people expect but it is still satisfactory. The only depressing thing there may be the meal plan....That's all I know so far.

PEANUT BUTTER MANGO PIZZA

That's not a joke, that's an ACTUAL dish offered on campus. That's how bad it is. The campus dining here is notoriously bad. At best someone will find it acceptable, on average they find it pretty disgusting. Incoming freshman now have to have a meal plan if they live on campus, which is pretty likely considering living off campus requires a parking pass and determination to walk 20 minutes to your class from the parking lot. The school barely acknowledges it has a terrible dining plan, they recently said they "could do better" and said they would "improve" without giving any details about HOW they would improve. Maybe students will no longer have to pay 10.50 for peanut butter mango pizza, but I'm skeptical.

Not Bad for College Food

There are three main cafeterias on campus that offer a pretty decent variety. The two larger dining halls offer home style meals that vary depending on the season, holiday, and school events. The smaller has more of a food court feel which is cool. The food is not the BEST I have ever tasted, but it's pretty good considering it's made in high volumes. I worked in one of the cafeterias and I can say without doubt cleanliness and sanitation is a number one priority.
