Other Options
- “Flex Points” (money specifically designated for food) are built into most meal plans. You can use these to get coffee or snacks at the Starbucks in the library, at the Student Exchange, Quiznos, or Chik-Fil-A, and at some campus events. You can also eat The Dodge Room, a well-known secret for people with classes around lunch hours. It is located on New Campus and is good for a grab-and-go meal.
College Prowler Take
Depending on the facility and the day, students think the food ranges from excellent to sub-par. There are two all-you-can-eat cafeterias offering rotating menus and several á la carte eateries. One of the cafeterias—The Commons, or “the Caf”—was renovated a few years ago, and many students declare its superiority over all other dining halls on campus. Others prefer the Marketplace for consistently good food. A lot of students consider the Sadler Center cafeteria as the most variable in quality, but its central location makes it a popular place to eat regardless. Despite the apparent cornucopia of options, students still want more variety and more consistency. Freshman are required to get a large meal plan, which can end up being a waste of money, and the greasy food won’t help ward off the infamous Freshman 15. On the positive side, the hours of operation are pretty accommodating—increasing by two hours on weekdays at the Sadler Center this year—and the students admit that the food really isn’t all that bad. Dining Services holds regular meetings with students, and there are suggestion forms in the dining facilities. The Dining Services staff really tries to tailor the menus based on student feedback. Even after all their efforts, however, the opinions on food still come down to a matter of personal taste.

Food is alright. Not that good, but passable. The Marketplace has some pretty good food, but not as much variety as other places. |

The food’s pretty much just okay. I’ve had a meal plan all four years because I’m too lazy to cook for myself. The Caf is good for breakfast and okay most other times. The UC has the most convenient dining hall, but most say it has the worst food. The Marketplace is the place most people on campus like best. For what it’s worth, the head of Dining Services has been trying pretty hard to make things better. |

Eh, the food isn’t really anything to write home about. It gets the job done, and they really have a lot of options, but nothing special. There are basically three dining halls on campus and then some mini-places for snacks, take-out lunch, or drinks. |

The food is decent. The Marketplace has lots of variety in its concepts and has great quality. The Caf has a lot of general variety in a different way, and its food and staff are both great. The UC is my least favorite place to eat on campus, and it still isn’t that bad. |
