College Prowler Take
While there is no lack of computer labs at W&M, the laptop requirement ensures that no student will ever be stuck without a computer when they need it. Students love the fast connections available in every dorm room and like convenience of being able to talk to friends via Skype or G-Chat anywhere on campus or write late-night papers in the comfort of their own dorm. While printing at 5 cents a page can add up, most students find the printing services both convenient and affordable. In fact, students can print wirelessly from their own laptops to any one of the 17 main computer labs on campus, a resource that only some students use. The majority of computers still have the Windows XP operating system, which starts up a little more slowly than Vista. In spite of this, the Internet connection is “super-fast,” the computers themselves operate very quickly, and they’re always widely available.

You're required to have a computer, and you can buy one pretty cheaply through the school. The library has a pretty good number of computers so you can usually get one, though you may have to wait a couple minutes for one to free up. The entire campus is wireless, which is awesome.

Because of the budget cuts a few years back, some of the labs have been shut down, so the few labs that are still opened can get crowded. Also, printing from the labs can get expensive. |

Computer labs are crowded at certain times, but empty at others. After a while, you can figure out which ones aren’t as busy. |

The network is great. It doesn’t ever seem to be too bogged down. The computer labs can get really crowded, especially when lots of classes have papers due and things like that. |
