Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are many facilities available for entertainment, exercise, and, inevitably, schoolwork. Entertainment-wise, there is a game and common area on the first floor of the Sadler Center, where students can unwind in front of a row of flat-screen televisions, play pool, or regress to their childhood days on the pinball machines. There is also the Students' X-Change, located on the first floor, where students can purchase menial groceries, snacks, and last-minute school supplies, all of which can be bought with the school-provided "flex points" (the money allotted for on-campus restaurants rather than the dining halls). The main exercise facility is the Rec Center, where there are endless rows of workout machinery, a rock wall, a weight-lifting room, multipurpose gymnasiums, a pool, and a huge basketball court. It is one of the most beloved facilities at William & Mary, especially when utilized as a means to relieve pent up stress during and after finals.

Though the Rec Center is cherished by many, the Swem Library is undoubtedly the savior in terms of facilities at the College. With the amount of work assigned in W&M classes, it's no wonder kids are relieved at the sight of this library. It has helpful employees, computers on every floor, and its collection of databases, books, articles, and movies is not only vast, but also downright enviable to other libraries in the nation. The big and beautiful business school has also become a favorite study area for a lot of students, and it also has a resource center.

Great Facilities Within Walking Distance from Everywhere on Campus

William and Mary has great facilities around my entire dorm; the biggest dinning hall(food's okay but could be better) is right down the street with the gym being right down the corner. In addition, the gym has great activities you can participate in (basketball, rock-climbing, zumba dancing, swimming, etc). There are a lot of places to eat aside from dining halls, like the business school that is also right around the corner in addition to the art gallery, the library (with great resources and study environments on each floor), and the delicious marketplace.

Facilities Are Limited

William and Mary isn't a very big school. We have one main library, three main eating spots, and one rec center. It doesn't seem like a lot, but it handles the amount of traffic pretty well.

Good Not Great

Some of the facilities are amazing... The new career center and Business school are state of the art. However, there are many parts of campus such as the Caf or many of the other academic buildings are falling apart.

"Green" Initiatives

For several years now, William & Mary has worked with the student-organized Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC) and funded the distribution of a fluorescent light bulb (CFL) for every entering freshman at check-in.

Favorite Things To Do

Going to the Muscarelle Museum of Art, which brings great exhibits (like the Andy Warhol print and screen test exhibition in 2010), is always sure to be relaxing and entertaining. Laying out on the Sunken Gardens after a particularly tough gym session at the Rec is a close second.
