College Prowler Take
William and Mary has a thriving Greek community that includes a significant number of students. The fraternities are responsible for most of the on-campus nightlife. The Greek community, as much as it parties, also organizes a lot of charity events that the whole campus takes part in. With around a third of students involved in Greek organizations, it’s almost impossible for them to avoid being the center of social activities.
While the Greeks are a large presence, they don’t rule the social scene to the point that students must join them in order to have a social life. Students say they can find plenty of non-Greek social activities, and they don’t feel pressured to join. There’s always plenty to do at W&M!

About a third of the campus is Greek, but you wouldn’t guess it. It’s one way of making some extra friends and having a place to hang out on the weekends. |

There’s no pressure to be Greek; a lot of people are anyway; but it’s not exclusive (I could go to all the parties) so you don’t need to be Greek to participate in Greek life on campus. |

Greek life is different than most other schools. Most of the fraternities are housed on campus in dormitory-style housing. They usually have parties on Friday and Saturday nights, and the parties are pretty much the same everywhere you go. Overall, it’s a relatively weak system. |

There are plenty of fraternities and sororities and tons of people join them, but you don’t have to to have fun. Frat parties do dominate the social scene, especially for freshmen and sophomores. |

Definitely not a must, but there are lots of people in frats. You’ll do fine socially either way. I know people who are always at frats but who haven’t joined them. |
