College Prowler Take
Nightlife in Williamsburg is limited. Students say that it consists mostly of frat parties at the units and drinking at the delis, with a few dorm room or off-campus house parties mixed in. The delis have a local charm and are right next to campus. Frat parties aren’t all bad, expect the typical cheap college beer—good only for getting drunk. One benefit to this partying style is that it’s all pretty close to campus: frat row and the delis are close enough for students to walk safely back to their dorms after they’re done partying. The biggest thing Williamsburg lacks is a club scene. Students have to travel to Virginia Beach or Richmond for clubs, which is about an hour's drive either way and can be a big inconvenience. The one exception is a rumored “Green Leafe Underground,” a dance floor underneath one of the delis expected to open sometime next year. Overall, William & Mary isn’t a big party school, but if students want to let loose, there are a few places for them to do so.

Parties are what you make of them; some are better than others, but you can have fun at them all. They range from frat to apartment to off-campus house parties. The bars or ‘delis’ are good. I’ve never been, but many of my friends have, and they only have good things to say. College and Paul’s delis are top choices. |

Off-campus night life is limited...
Off-campus night life is limited because there are no official bars in Williamsburg. What we have are the delis, which serve beer and alcohol and act as our bars. All three are right next to each other for bar-hopping convenience. All of campus that isn’t at the frats is at the delis on the weekends, especially if they don’t have cars. |

There are no clubs in Williamsburg, but there are some good clubs just 45 minutes away in Virginia Beach, and some people even take the two hour drive to Washington to the clubs up there. |

The College Delly is your typical...
The College Delly is your typical college bar—very popular with the Greeks, and it has a nice patio for warm weather. Paul’s is more of a sports bar and has the best food (it’s my favorite), and the Green Leafe is like a pub, including lots of weird beers. Lots of professors go to the Leafe, so if you like seeing your teachers blitzed out of their minds, that’s the place to go. |

Williamsburg has three main bars, although we like to call them ‘delis’ for reasons beyond my understanding. They’re all right across the street from Old Campus, so they’re very convenient. All serve food, but mostly function as bars. |

W&M students have to travel to Richmond, Norfolk, or Washington D.C. if they want to participate in the club scene.
Bar Prowler
The delis (essentially the bars here) are all located right across from Zable Stadium. Thursday nights are big at the delis, with many Greek organizations there enjoying a tab courtesy of their group.
Organization Parties
Parties that organizations throw are extremely popular events. Most of these occur off-campus, and are done to raise awareness and funds for service trips and other clubs. Service is a big deal on W&M’s campus, and partying for a cause is something that the students are all about. Other groups, such as the International Relations Club, are famous for their social house parties, where a $5 fee at the door covers decent all-you-can-drink alcohol.

A lot of organizations have tabs at Paul’s on Thursday nights. Wednesday night is Corona Night, $1 bottles Paul’s Deli 761 Scotland St. (757) 229-8976
Like the other delis, the College Delly serves food to tourists and students during the day and attracts the college crowd at night. It features a patio that allows partiers to enjoy the night air along with their pitchers of beer. College Delly 336 Richmond Rd. (757) 229-6627
Mama Mia’s has yummy Italian food by day and drinking by night. Mama Mia’s 521 Prince George St. (757) 253-2225
The Green Leafe is more pub-like than the other delis, and attracts more upperclassmen than the others, as it is probably the hardest to get into under age. Professors also frequent the Leafe, so keep an eye out. The Leafe also hosts Mug Night on Sunday evenings, with cheap beer for the over-21’s who don’t have early classes on Mondays. Green Leafe Café 765 Scotland St. (757) 220-3405
What to Do if You're Not 21
Being under 21 doesn’t hinder students in any substantial way. While they can’t get into the delis, students can get alcohol fairly easily from fraternities on campus, and police don’t really bust people unless they are acting out of control. Getting someone who is 21 to buy you alcohol or going off campus to parties is “the thing.” However, there’s a good number of students who opt not to drink, regardless of their age, and that makes it easier for the under-21s to enjoy the party atmosphere in the legal way.
