Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is a wide variety of restaurants in Williamsburg, ranging from the casual coffeehouse and roadhouse-style diners to the more fancy and eloquent five-star restaurants like the Blue Talon (supposedly, Queen Elizabeth II ate there on her visit to Williamsburg in 2007). Most places within walking distance are affordable, unless you decide to visit the aforementioned critically-acclaimed Blue Talon, or Fat Canary, Trellis, and Opus 9 restaurants.

There is no shortage of cafés within walking distance for students to hang out at or casually do homework in, and there are plenty of ice cream and frozen yogurt shops to satisfy your sweet tooth. There are also dining staples of Williamsburg, like the quaint yet delicious Cheese Shop and Peanut Shop (for those who want a quick snack). Other student favorites include the classic Five Forks Café (which requires a short drive) or Retro's Good Eats. While most restaurants are located right in Colonial Williamsburg, some require a short drive or, more simply, a trolley or bus ride into town.

Plenty of Options

Being a tourist town, there are plenty off campus dining options in Williamsburg. Down DoG street you'll have your higher end dining, like the Trellis, the Cheese Shop, Aromas, the Blue Talon, etc. Down Richmond Road there are plenty of chain restaurants as well as some more local type joints that are good. However, most of these will come at a price.

Food in Williamsburg

Unfortunately, the "city" of Williamsburg is not a thriving metropolis, but there are some options nearby--all of which are way better than eating on campus. One of the best options is Chipotle, but they do not have any student discounts despite the proximity to campus. They used to take W&M "Express" money, but this year they have stopped doing so. Qdoba, similar to Chipotle, is closer to campus and does offer great discounts, however people tend to prefer Chipotle and sometimes ignore the discounts. Unfortunately, outside of these 2 restaurants, there are few viable, cheap options nearby with almost none in walking distance. Thankfully, since other options are limited, WaWa is open 24 hours a day, and it is a very popular spot for students.

Average Food Options

Williamsburg is a pretty quiet town. That being said, there are not too many off campus options if you don't have a car. The one place that everyone likes to go to is Aroma's in Colonial Williamsburg. It's a cute little coffee shop that also sells sandwiches and dessert. There is also a Buffalo Wild Wings in New Town, but you have to either drive there or take the bus. Overall, I would say Williamsburg is not super accommodating to college students but you can make it work.
