College Prowler Take

Great restaurants are one of the few perks of living in a tourist town. There is a restaurant for every taste and budget in Williamsburg. From the classic chains like IHOP, Applebee’s, and Uno’s Chicago Grill to local places like the Cheese Shop, Dolaldo’s Pizza, and the delis, W&M students have plenty of options when eating on campus gets old. Most eateries are within walking distance, and there are plenty of reasonably priced options, as well as more expensive treats for Parents' Weekend.

Students have so many dining options that sometimes it’s hard to choose. They like the array of familiar chains, but also grow to love the local establishments. Like everything else at William & Mary, there’s a tradition to the student’s diets—studying over coffee at Aromas, munching on bread ends and house dressing from the Cheese shop, or attempting to finish an entire one-pounder in an hour from Cheeburger Cheeburger are culinary and social traditions at the College.

Go to the Cheese Shop; you won’t be disappointed. Also, everyone has to eat at a colonial tavern at least once.

There are tons of pancake places, but aside from that there are a number of random places to eat, such as the Cheese Shop and Aromas, as well as chain restaurants such as Olive Garden and Chicago Uno’s.

The Cheese Shop is the best place...

The Cheese Shop is the best place ever. They were always so crowded they had to move to a bigger place on DoG street. The college kids go there, the locals go there, and the tourists go there. It’s best to go during off-hours, or once you’ve grown to love it, you can call your order in and it’ll be ready when you get there. The sandwiches are just great, and my roommate and I practically live on bread ends during finals.

Try the pizzas at the Green Leafe, the sandwiches at the College Delly if you like big ol’ greasy hoagies (they’re fabulous), or Death by Chocolate at the Trellis, although the restaurant itself is awfully steep. Have your parents bring you there.

There are fancy restaurants in Colonial Williamsburg like the Trellis, Seasons, Barrett’s, plus the taverns which feature 18th century food that is expensive and best for parental visits. Students tend to flock to the Cheese Shop for lunch, for it has amazing sandwiches and other food. Sno to Go is a seasonal ice cream and shaved ice place, Pierce’s BBQ is one of the best BBQ joints in the country (supposedly), and the delis are always good.
