Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Getting involved in Greek life at Wooster is really a matter of personal preference. Students that join a fraternity or sorority insist that it was the best part of their college experience. But students who decide not to go Greek don’t seem to miss it. Because students at Wooster are involved in a number of activities, being Greek does not solely define a person, and Greeks and non-Greeks become friends through their classes and other campus involvements. Greek life at Wooster is unique because none of the groups are nationally affiliated and instead are local fraternities and sororities. Wooster no longer allows nationally-affiliated Greek life on campus. This means that Greek groups are more laid-back at Wooster. They have more control over their rules and activities, and dues are much less expensive than a national group. Plus, although groups do have closed parties, most Greek parties are open to the whole campus.

Greeks get a bad rap from the administration at Wooster and recently the College has been cracking down on the groups—increasing the requirements to keep charters and taking away housing. But the battle between Greeks and Wooster’s administration is a constant one, as Greeks try to prove to the College that they are more than just partiers.

General Division Between Greeks and Non-Greeks

Greeks don't dominate the social scene, but they definitely throw the most parties. Most people hang out and drink in dorms or go to generally small-ish parties at student's on-campus houses. There is plenty of socializing for everyone, but there's much less of a guarantee that non-Greeks will be congregating in bigger groups. Often these parties are open for anyone to stop by, but are often not the most enjoyable environment for non-Greeks.

Not a Fan

I'm not exactly a partier, so they generally annoy me. At best I ignore them. They are the center of the party atmosphere of the school, though.

It's Like, Chill Bro

Greek life is basically the only way to party here, but you don't have to join to party. They're super laid back and there's definitely no pressure to join.

Just learn your Greek alphabet.
