Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

When you begin your drive into the city of Wooster and you are greeted by miles of cornfields, you should start to realize that Wooster is a city in name only. More accurately, Wooster is a rural Midwestern town. Located in the middle of Amish country, Wooster has a quaint, small-town vibe. With about 26,000 people living in Wooster, the city and the College mesh well together because they are both small communities. Unfortunately, the camaraderie ends there. A poor relationship exists between the city and the College, which in recent years has become a growing problem. Because Wooster is a small, quiet town, townspeople don't appreciate college students who throw loud parties on the weekends. "Townies" often shout out their windows at the girls walking down Beall Avenue. There have also been reports of racial slurs and profanities yelled at students. But, don't panic! Wooster is a safe place and despite these incidents, students feel comfortable walking around campus and town.

Although the city of Wooster may not be a bustling metropolis, it is a town that is focused on growth and development. New stores and restaurants continue to be built. There is a commercial shopping district, complete with Walmart, Bath & Body Works, Dollar Tree, Best Buy, Kohl's, rue21, and Dunham's, as well as restaurants, banks, gas stations, and grocery stores. Downtown Wooster has a multitude of local businesses and restaurants that give the town its flavor. Wooster also has the usual amenities, such as movie theatres, an ice rink, and parks.

Lots to Do in Wooster

There's always lots of restaurants, events, businesses, etc. to check out throughout Wooster Ohio. Definitely not simply a college town, it's easy to find things to do off campus, in the rare instance there isn't something exciting happening on campus. The town overall is also very safe, there are rare instances of conflict with Wooster's citizens, and bonds between the town and the college are continuously being strengthened through events and service projects, especially within education internships.

Uptown and Downtown

Wooster has both the perks of a small college town with all the conviences of a larger city. In its downtown area, Wooster features many local restuarants and coffee shops and lots of other great places to eat and hang out. The uptown also has all of the chains like Panera and Chipotle.
