Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At Wooster, students party on campus—going to house parties, the Underground, or even just their friend's dorm room. Every weekend, there is usually a party thrown by a different organization or Greek group. And if not, students don’t mind throwing their own with their hallmates. The Underground is popular on Friday nights, but as you become an upperclassman, it becomes less appealing to go for the dance party; seniors usually stick to UG happy hour instead. When students do go off campus for nightlife, they go out for drinks at the local restaurants and bars. There are a lot of restaurants uptown that have drink specials, and Wooster students especially enjoy El Campesino's Wednesday night $2 margarita deal. It is only an $8 cab ride uptown, which a group of friends often split.

But, if you don't drink, don't think that you aren't welcome at Wooster's party scene. The parties at Wooster are what you make of them. And if you're with your friends and having fun, that's all that matters. There are also plenty of substance-free activities and events held on the weekends for students who prefer to steer clear of the party scene entirely.

Night Life

I was never the going out type. I'd generally avoid Bissman and the UG. Small dorm parties with your friends are the best way to go.

If You Want to Bar Hop...

This isn't really the place. However that isn't to say that the party scene isn't a good one. It's just centered around house parties and hall parties in the dorms. Friday nights the local on campus bar, The Underground, is open till 2am. But if you have a car and a DD then there are three or four great places to visit in town, that's about it.

Facts

Club Crawler

Nightclubs in Wooster are virtually nonexistent.

Bar Prowler

The fact that Wooster has an on-campus bar is rare among campuses its size. They are very fortunate, or unfortunate depending on how you look at it, to have the Underground. This campus also has a full liquor license, even though they don’t completely utilize it.

Organization Parties

Almost every club and organization on campus throws parties, and usually these are open to the entire campus. Groups will hang up signs or send out emails about their event, and word travels fast on Wooster's campus. Phi Sigma Alpha, one of the fraternities, throws a party every year called "Lumberjack." They rent out a camp site, make a bonfire, and have music and beer. Students can camp out all night, or go back to campus on the "Safe Rides" provided by the fraternity. The whole campus is invited, but if you're under 21, you aren't allowed to drink.

Did You Know? The College forbids drinking games on campus, and any student caught playing a drinking game can face disciplinary action.

The College Underground

Both a club and a bar, the Underground is where you will find many of your friends on the weekends. It is open Fridays and Saturdays for happy hour, and then everyone will start to arrive to dance. Usually, whether or not you're 21, "the UG" is a place to start your night before moving on to other parties. On nights when there are no parties to be found on campus, everyone flocks to the UG, and then it feels like a huge, sweaty dance club—almost like a real place you would go to in the city.
