Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Off-campus housing is almost a nonexistent option at Wooster. Ninety-nine percent of students live on campus, and the College makes it difficult for any student who wants to opt out of campus housing. Students must apply to live off campus because housing costs are included in tuition costs. Students usually prefer to live on campus anyway, so they can be closer to their friends, classes, and activities. The College offers a number of options for housing including single dorm rooms, apartment-style housing, and program houses, so most students can find what they are looking for without going off campus.

The students that do choose to live off campus enjoy the experience. There are a few apartment complexes close to campus, so these students don’t have to look far for housing options. But they end up spending most of their time on campus because that is where their friends are.

It Is Doable but Not Easy.

Off-Campus housing is quickly changing as Wooster accrues more attendees each year. However, the policy of the school is to create a liberal arts environment that favors community and interaction. With off-campus housing then, this defeats the purpose. There are places on-campus that feel like they could be off - Henderson Apartments and East End Apartments are two such places. They provide the student with the chance to learn how to hold down an actual apartment outside of college while still maintaining a 'safety net' so one will not starve or sleep hermetically on the floor.
