Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town
  • Borrow a friend's car
  • Walk
  • Rent a car from Security & Protective Services through the "Connect by Hertz" program
  • Rent a campus bike through the Community Bike Club
  • Ride a bike
Best Ways to Get to the Airport
  • Ask your friends for a ride. It sounds like a pain, but this is oftentimes the easiest way to get to the airport. Because both Akron and Cleveland are under two hours away from Wooster, if you pay for gas or offer to buy lunch, you'll be surprised at how many people are eager for a short road trip.
  • Cab. There are a number of local taxi services. A cab ride to the airport costs about $90.
  • College shuttles provided by the Student Government Association (SGA). Tickets are usually $10 and can be purchased online up to 24 hours prior to departure. (These shuttles are only provided before and after breaks.)

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The City of Wooster doesn’t have any public transportation, so students that are used to the convenience of a subway or the simplicity of a train, are in for a shock. However, the College has recently implemented a couple of programs that allow students to get around easier. Cars are available for rent at Security & Protective Services through the “Connect by Hertz” program. You are charged an hourly fee to use the vehicle, so this is a good option for students who just plan on a short shopping trip. Bikes are also available for free rental through the Community Bike Club which students take advantage of in nice weather.

Wooster is very easy to maneuver on foot; students can walk from campus to the heart of downtown in 20 to 30 minutes. But the best way to get around Wooster, especially if you want to go uptown, is to either have your own car or to borrow a friend’s. Luckily, students are usually more than willing to loan their car out or to take a break from studying to drive their hallmates to Walmart.

No Need of a Car

I've never had a car on campus and besides Walmart and Chipotle runs, going off campus isn't very necessary. If you don't bring a car to campus enough of your Ohio friends will have a car on campus and will totally drive you off- campus. Plus, most places you need to go (downtown restaurants, Drug-Mart) are all within walking distance.

Great Access to Transportation

Wooster makes it easy to get around the community and state. There is a free daily shuttle that brings students from the student center all around the community (restaurants, shopping centers, movies, etc.) It runs pretty much all day and is super convenient. There are also shuttles to the two major airports when breaks role around. There is a small charge for these trips; however, it is completely reasonable. Additionally, several campus environmental groups have collaborated on making an online ride board available, which is great for carpooling.

Befriend Upperclassmen

The school provides a shuttle to both downtown Wooster and the North end of Wooster which are about 1 and 3 miles away, respectively. It runs everyday and is a good way to get to places. If you don't want to wait for the shuttle's schedule, just make friends with upperclassmen or other underclassmen who have brought cars. They're almost always more than willing to make a trip with you. The vast majority of places near campus are just within walking distance though, transportation is only ever rarely needed.
