College Prowler Take
Campus dining at CC has long been a sticking point for many students. Perhaps because CC is such a small campus, or perhaps because the administration has other priorities, the dining options have remained few. Students joke about the principal cafeteria, Rastall, with such names as Rat-Stall and Nasty Rasty. These less-than-generous nicknames are exaggerated. While the “Stall” doesn’t serve up gourmet fare, the food isn’t so inedible as to warrant totally avoiding the place. The cafeteria chefs serve up a variety of choices every night. The problem is that “variety” becomes repetitive after the third month of eating it. Most agree that the key is to be creative with food selection and try new things on occasion. Aside from Rastall, on-campus food is generally good quality but limited and expensive. Rastall’s closest alternative, Benji’s, is popular for sandwiches and burritos. Again, nobody can claim that the food is gourmet, but the servings are generous, usually leaving a little for a leftover dinner. Across campus, some savvy investors recently decided to cash in on CC’s “keep it natural” crowd by constructing Herb ‘n Farm. There, environmental- and health-conscious students can dine on all-natural sandwiches, soups, and desserts. The food is delicious, but serving sizes are reminiscent of a pretentious French restaurant and the prices are enough to drop the jaw of any poor college student.
The most important thing about eating on campus at CC is attitude. Many students get bogged down in how “terrible” and “greasy” Rastall food is and how expensive all the other options are. The students who keep their heads have learned to be creative at Rastall and use the other locales to add occasional spice to their diets.

Food options on such a small campus are sometimes limited, but there are good places if you know where to go. Benjamin’s Café and The Preserve are both good places for sandwiches, as well as a change from the traditional dining hall experience. |

Rastall is the main dining hall. There you have everything from vegetarian options to the order-up grill. You can tell them anything you want to eat (within reason), and they make it. They take comment cards seriously, so improvements are constantly being made. Many students complain, but I think that’s just in their nature. |

The food isn’t very good here. To begin with, there aren’t many options for vegetarians. The Preserve is definitely the best food on campus, but be prepared to empty your pockets. |

The dining halls are nothing special. The food is better than average on college campuses, I think, but I wouldn’t expect anything too fancy. |

The on-campus food is terrible. Rastall dining hall is notorious for tearing one’s stomach to pieces. At nopoint have I ever enjoyed eating at the dining hall. However, I will say it’s convenient not having to prepare your own food. I can’t stress enough that the food on campus is horrible. |

Did You Know?Sunday morning is always a treat for CC students. After a long night of partying, those who can make their way to the school cafeteria between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. find chefs whipping up custom omelets with ham, cheese, peppers, mushrooms, and just about any other fixings you can imagine. The cafeteria may not be glitzy, but on Sunday mornings it shines.
