Freshmen Required to Live on Campus

Yes - Students are required to live on campus through junior year.

College Prowler Take

Incoming freshmen are faced with few housing options, the largest of which are two first-year residence halls, Loomis and Slocum. Loomis offers little in the way of physical comfort, with doubles which can be a bit cramped with two students and all their belongings. Despite the simplicity, or perhaps because of it, Loomis is known for its raucous atmosphere, and it never fails to give the first-year student a wild introduction to college living. Slocum dormitory features palace-sized rooms and high ceilings. Since its conversion into a freshman building, Slocum has worked its way up (or down) to the zoo-like atmosphere long cherished by Loomis residents. The two buildings offer a very typical, “thrown into the mix” dorm experience. CC has made a concerted effort to keep students on campus as long as possible, thereby creating a closer-knit student body. To accomplish this goal, CC has made it nearly impossible for anyone but seniors to live off campus. At the same time, the College has dedicated large sums of time and money to making campus living areas more attractive and more numerous. Recently, the College has constructed a complex of on-campus apartment buildings that have added over 200 living spaces. The apartments, despite blocking out some of the beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains, are comfortable and well maintained.

In addition, the College has encouraged students to create new theme houses. The most innovative of these houses is the Sustainable Living House. Residents make it their goal to live in an environmentally conscious environment, which means reducing waste, growing vegetables, and creating projects to save energy, amongst other goals. Apart from this house, sophomores and juniors can choose from Language Houses, Diversity Houses, and Substance-Free Houses, all of which offer a different environment and experience.

The dorms are alright, but the school is having big problems with fitting everybody in. Some dorm lounges were converted into dorm rooms for freshmen.

The dorm with the biggest rooms is Slocum, a freshman dorm. I wouldn’t say you need to avoid any one dorm. They’re all pretty average.

The CC dorms are generally well-kept and clean. For freshmen, Loomis and Slocum are good choices. For upperclassmen, the on-campus apartments are a convenient place to live.

The dorms are okay. Loomis is the worst for living arrangements, but the best for first-year partying. Slocum is good all-around, and Mathias is pretty much the same. They can get pretty loud and crazy, so be ready for a good time.

The dorms are okay. Not bad, but not good either. The rooms are small, but there are many nice lounges and study areas to hang out in. If I could do it all over, I wouldn’t change where I lived, just maybe who I lived with. The dorms have a tendency to get wrecked after weekends and they sometimes smell kind of funny, but college is all about having fun, not where you live.
