College Prowler Take
The feelings are mixed about the drug scene at CC. While some students wholeheartedly believe that “you can’t be an alcoholic until after you graduate,” CC students sometimes demonstrate patterns of problem drinking, including binge drinking and drinking heavily on class nights. At the same time, most students confine their drinking to the weekends, and then to under five drinks. A large group of CC students never use drugs other than alcohol, and many say that they’re not even remotely interested in trying them. Unlike at some colleges, “No” does mean “No” at CC. This doesn’t mean, however, that drug use is “low,” even relative to other college campuses.
After alcohol, the drug of choice seems to be pot. Marijuana is a hugely popular drug, used frequently in residence halls in the early afternoon hours. Students can buy pot without any problems, and lax enforcement of drug policies makes it an even more attractive option. Harder drugs, such as cocaine, are no harder to come by, but are far less visible on the campus.
