Greek life at CC is by no means an Animal House re-creation, but neither is it invisible in students’ daily lives. Six national Greek organizations have staked a claim in CC territory, three fraternities and three sororities. The fraternities have done their duty to fill in the void that Colorado Springs’ lack of nightlife has left for CC students. Most house parties are thrown by the fraternities themselves, and many non-Greek parties are supported by individual members. Fortunately for all non-Greek students, the frats aren’t usually exclusive—that is, you can get into the parties and dance to their music even if you didn’t pledge. Frat parties usually get overcrowded and hot, only because of the lack of alternative activities at 10 o’clock at night. Sororities typically stay out of the social limelight, although they do hold several dances every year. These functions tend to be more exclusive than the frat parties, and at most of them students need an invitation.
Despite the general perception, though, Greek life isn’t all about keggers and dances. One of the most important aspects of the Greek experience is the philanthropic activities that all members are expected to participate in. All of the CC chapters are heavily involved in community service. They put on everything from kickball tournaments to soup kitchens, and many students find that going Greek is also a great way to get involved in these sorts of activities.

Greek life is not a huge part of CC. However, the small percentages of kids that are involved dominate the social scene and leadership on campus. Greeks are in almost every club, and they’re involved in activities from athletics to community service. The good thing about Greek life at CC is that you don’t live in the house, so it’s not as exclusive as at other schools. |

I’m not really sure what Greek life is like. I couldn’t say that they dominate the social scene, though. They have great parties sometimes, but there are plenty of other things to do. |

Greek life on campus is not too pronounced. There are three fraternities and three sororities. Each has its own dances, but Greek life doesn’t dominate every weekend on campus. |

Greek life at CC is small, but it’s an integral part to the social life. Most of the parties thrown at CC are because of Greek life. Greek life is not just for social purposes, but is philanthropically motivated, as well—not to mention the life-long friendships you develop by participating in Greek life. At CC, you don’t need Greek life, but it’s a huge benefit, and I can’t see myself anywhere else. |
