Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The CC population is generally a very svelte and healthy bunch. Girls and guys both are athletic and outdoorsy, and most students seem to have a glow about them that can only come from the Rocky Mountain sunshine. CC girls save the lipstick and mascara for the parties and tend to opt for a natural look, even though the labels on their clothes say otherwise. Guys are usually similarly lax with their appearance.

Relationships on campus are quite varied. There is a definite hookup culture, which may be exacerbated by the strenuous pace of the block plan. Though casual dating is the norm, most students are capable of making time for a steady relationship when they find a special someone. CC students are a fun-loving bunch—the block plan puts a huge workload on their shoulders, but they’re always ready to put their books aside and have a good time.

an attractive bunch, but good luck dating.

The student body at CC is generally strikingly attractive (especially girls). The school, with it's adventurous academic system, tends to attract adventurous students. This can be taken to mean that among CC students are many svelte mountain athletes, bright-eyed idealists, brilliant writers with quirky theories (but sometimes sloppy study habits), excellent conversationalists and generally good people. Though it's far from slim pickings, the hookup culture is pretty ridiculous, and girls outnumber guys to an extent that is significant, but not outrageous. This means that the high-minded rhetoric of respect in the classrooms does not necessarily translate to the nighttime/party scenes.

I Love the CC Look

Nearly everyone at CC is in good shape and cares about how they look. If you're going to CC, chances are you fit into the range of styles that are prevalent at CC and are probably attracted to people who are similar to you, so you'll find someone. There's someone for most everyone though: bros and the girl equivalent of bros, hipsters, hippies, outdoorsy/rugged types. There is definitely no lack in good looking people at CC.

Most People Fit Into the Entitled Hippie Stereotype

Guys for the most part are attractive as people come out to Colorado to bike, ski, snowboard, hike and all sorts of other outdoor activities. Don't expect them to ask you out on a date the girls, hook-up culture is extremely prevalent here. Girls get tired of CC guys pretty quickly and start to outsource to the Air Force Academy or the multitude of universities in and around Denver. We like to be comfortable around here rocking the Carhartts and tees. We clean up nice though on the rare occasion that there's a formal event like Winter Ball or the Fashion Show.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The laid-back attitude of most CC students allows for easy socializing, and freshmen usually develop a close circle of friends quickly enough to start touring the party scene in groups. The social scene largely centers around the off-campus house parties. Students can usually put up with these weekend bashes for their first two years, but grow tired of them eventually. For the non-party scene, there are plenty of alternatives available, and people have a wide variety of interests on campus. Having a good time at CC is really just a matter of finding people with similar interests and enough time to hang out on the block plan.

Hookups or Relationships?

A recent campus newspaper student poll revealed that if CC is lacking in one thing, it's relationship material. One-night hookups and brief flings are the norm, and serious relationships are the odd exception.

Dress Code

"Upscale outdoorsy" is the best way to describe the CC image. The "granola" type from a few years back has been replaced by a crowd that is not afraid to show off their love of expensive mountain brands. The Birkenstock image is still around, but is much less commonly seen and is interspersed with plenty of random, quirky fashion. During the winter, North Face fleece jackets, wool beanies, and the ubiquitous Ugg boots are in vogue. At first glance, students seem to place almost no importance on fashion, but on closer examination, their brand-name jeans and their oh-so-slightly tousled hair give them away as an upscale crowd.
