Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Although Colorado College is located in somewhat of an urban setting, students generally feel safe on campus. The security personnel have years of experience and are quick to respond to calls. They are there if you need them, but don't seem overbearing. The most pressing security issue on campus is bicycle theft. Hundreds of bikes have been stolen over the last few years, and security has been working hard to get students to register their bikes and store them in the locked bike sheds on campus. As more students do this and lock their bikes more securely, theft has gone down. Apart from this, security puts a great deal of effort into getting students to take care crossing the two busy streets that run through campus. Paths are well lit at night, and people feel safe walking alone on campus, though perhaps not as much so when straying beyond its boundaries.

Boettcher, the on-campus health center, is open 24 hours a day. They provide students with medical evaluations and treatments for illness, injury, and mental health concerns. Emergencies are seen immediately and often referred to the hospital just a five-minute drive from campus if they are serious enough. Students generally consider Boettcher expensive for the service they provide and often say that the staff is too conservative in their diagnoses and writing of prescriptions. But they're the only option on campus; they get the job done and their rates are considerably cheaper than off-campus health centers.

Usually Pretty Decent

You usually feel pretty safe walking alone from point A to point B, even in the middle of the night, largely because of the number of lights and cameras spread throughout campus. There have been a couple instances of students getting jumped, and when those come up, it generally puts people on edge, but those haven't really been common.

Meh

There aren't really police on campus, but there is campus safety, and they're there when you need them, though no one ever really needs them, at least that I've heard of. Campus feels completely safe, there's usually only students on campus despite it's proximity to downtown. Even going off campus for parties doest seem sketchy, though most people would rather not go alone, but that's typical.

Very Safe and Secure

I have never felt scared or insecure walking around campus. The people are very friendly in general and the security is top-notch.

Did You Know? CC has a blue-light system—emergency call-boxes, made visible by a blue light, directly connected to campus security—and the entire campus is well lit at night. The large residence halls use card-swipe systems and front desk attendants to prevent public access.
